It is official, Simon Yu has been nominated to run for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Cariboo-Prince George riding.
The 46-year-old structural engineer is an instructor at the College of New Caledonia and was the only person to put his name forward at a nomination meeting in Prince George this afternoon.
"This riding must make giant strides forward in the coming years to diversify its economy," says Yu, "Representation from inside the corridors of power in Ottawa is critical when you consider all that is on the cusp of being accomplished here and so much more that can be achieved."
Yu sees several key priorities for the region:
-- improving regional transportation infrastructure through such means as expanding the runway at the Prince George Airport
-- meeting long term civic and post secondary infrastructure needs
-- northern and rural health-care improvements and meeting long-term senior care demands
-- improving aboriginal education
Yu's nomination means all three main federal parties are now represented in the riding. He will run against incumbent Conservative MP, Dick Harris, who's seeking his 5th term and NDP candidate, Alfred Trudeau, a Quesnel mill worker.
