Prince George, B.C.- It’s time to make sure your vehicle isn’t over contributing to Prince George’s air quality issues.

Starting tomorrow, and running through Saturday,   you can take your vehicle to the CN Centre parking lot for a free emissions test.

The clinic, which is open to all drivers, will give you a free assessment of your vehicle’s emissions, as well as information on how to make that vehicle run more cleanly and efficiently.

"The clinic will provide a great opportunity for individuals to play a part in helping to improve the air quality in Prince George and reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said PG AIR Idle Free Ambassador, Katherine Lapadat-Janzen. "A well-maintained vehicle will also help drivers save fuel and money."

The times for the three day clinic are as follows:
· Thursday, September 17 – 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
· Friday, September 18 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
· Saturday, September 19 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Testing for light-duty vehicles takes about 10 minutes, and includes a tire pressure check and correction, gas cap check, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon check and fine particulate matter testing. Following testing, participants will be provided with a list of repairs, if any, recommended for their vehicles.

This emissions testing clinic isn’t just for the average driver, the AirCare ON-ROAD Program (ACOR) will also be available at the clinic to provide free opacity testing of heavy-duty diesel fleet vehicles. ACOR has also generously offered to provide free on-site testing at company yards, on a first-come, first-served basis, for fleets and other heavy duty diesel vehicles unable to attend the clinic. Fleet managers interested in on-site testing are asked to contact PG AIR to book a time for testing.

The clinic is free of charge and fines will NOT be handed out for vehicles that do not pass an emissions test.

And when they find they have enough vehicles, we will all have to do it and at what cost. Goverment is looking for money. Any way they can make it
Why would anyone want this??????????
I would love to see any sort of testing which would get the rustbuckets off the road. Far too many of those around here.
That's kinda my point - no ones gonna take in a beater p.o.s. & anything newer is no doubt fine. So what's the point?
To deflect attention away from the biggest contributors of air borne contamination.
Apparently our current regime has close ties to industry and like the taxes are trying to offload commitments from industry to the populace.

You were expecting it not to be self serving?

Longnecks1:
No doubt! Coddle industry, finance and mega corporations and enslave the peons. Nothing has changed in centuries.

Next will be a litany of calls to oust the current regime. Trouble is that every one spouts off that we should vote in the other guys. Well the pother guys have done it to us as well. Every established traditional party has screwed the citizenry. Yes, vote out the current thieves, DO NOT EVER VOTE FOR THEM AGAIN.

Vote for the new parties and the independents. They have so much to prove and so little history they would have to do the right things all the time to accomplish anything of value and to be re-elected. I would love to see a house of legislature filled with everyone but official party members. That would also make it really expensive for all lobbying.

Cool eh! A legislature with honest and industrious politicians. I usually need good drugs for this kind of euphoria.
Aircare is just a government sponsored money sucking leech. When they were on strike in the Lower Mainland years ago, the company still received money from the provincial government. If Aircare was ever foisted on us could we get a free pass from it just like a free bus ride here on stinky days? I will avoid this event like the plague.
The last sentence is most interesting but they could have added a bit more to it. "The clinic is free of charge and fines will NOT be handed out for vehicles that do not pass the emissions test". The addition to this last sentence could be: ...unless we can convince Victoria to set up an Aircare project in PG in order to relieve the driving public of more after tax dollars to fill the empty provincial coffers that are indeed empty at this time.
