The Prince George Cougars start firing real bullets tonight as they open their WHL regular season against the Spokane Chiefs, starting at 7:00 at CN Centre.  The Cougars went 2-2-0-1 in pre-season play and were led offensively by Robbie Ciolfi, who had three goals and four assists in exhibition play.  The Cougars didn't have last year's CHL Rookie of the Year Brett Connolly in pre-season, but he's set to go tonight, looking to improve on his team high 30 goals and 60 assists from a season ago.

The Cougars took last year's home opener 5-2 over Seattle, but in 2007, the Chiefs walked into CN Centre and took a 5-2 victory away from the Cats on opening night.  The Cougars have had their struggles with the Chiefs in recent years, winning one of four encounters last season.  Tonight will be the first of four get-togethers this season between the Cougars and Chiefs as they will hook up again tomorrow night at CN Centre.

Spokane 5 Cougers 3
I think it ended 6-3.

Fairly entertaining game though, and there were some signs of promise from the Cougars. Ciolfi and Connolly had strong games. If the Cougars had been able to convert a couple of their 5 on 3 power-plays (I counted them having 4) things would've been different. That and too many silly mistakes cost them though.

5,000 turned up. Will be interesting to see if enough of them saw positives to come back on a semi-regular basis.
Usually the first game of the season, and the Teddy Bear toss attract the most fans, however I must say I am somewhat impressed with the 4985 figure. Last years first game was around 3300.
Brodsky loses the home opener ....yet again!

I feel sorry for the kids, having to play for such a poven loser as Brodsky.
Are you a proven winner? If so, you surely must have enough cash to buy a WHL team.

Which one is it, and how have they done over the last 15 years?
