A Tip Of The Hat To Monica Peacock
By Ben Meisner
Monica Peacock did it again on the weekend. Acting as event Co-ordinator she put together an Evening of Pink that must be labelled first class.
Most importantly however is the fact that Monica has been, along with a very close group of supporters, putting together this event for a number of years.
No she doesn’t get the kind of accolades that she should for her yearly project, but if you watched her accepting praise on the weekend, she didn’t seek it. She is one of those people who just quietly go about the job, putting together a first class event.
It is important also to mention another individual, Sue Armstrong, of Uniqlobe Sunburst travel, who wears this town on her sleeve. She loves Prince George and area and it is easy to see in the many gifts that she and her company continually provide to the community to improve our lot. There were other contributors that stood out like, Ken Goss and Darryl Hubble and if we have missed someone important please forgive us, but these are the business people who are repeatedly called upon, and who answer the call for donations and support for so many fundraising events.
CTV sponsored Pamela Martin to give the key note speech. Talking about the Olympics which CTV is a major sponsor of in Prince George, was about as exciting as watching paint dry. If those in attendance came to the dinner with the intention of getting a laugh during some rather trying times and a plug for the plight of many women across this nation, they didn’t get it. Pamela should have read the part where it said that the money being raised this year will go to provide upgrades to the operating rooms at PGRH for cancer treatment. The organizers are trying to make their best effort at providing first class facilities for the new cancer clinic and somehow that was missed.
Prince George is lucky indeed to have people like Monica and Sue. They are the kind of people that quietly go about making a difference in this city and their efforts should be acknowledged.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Pamela couldn't light a candle to Shirley Bond.
Kuddos to Monica and her team for a fantastic evening.
