Prince George, BC

- Yesterday’s Boundary Road announcement made in Vancouver by Premier Gordon Campbell and Prince George-Peace River M.P. Jay Hill was great news to the Prince George Airport Authority.

“This announcement was confirmed at a perfect time in our planning stage. We are coming off of a successful Northern Pacific Gateway Trade and Investment Forum, hosted in conjunction with Initiatives Prince George and the Port of Prince Rupert, and with our cargo apron now complete, we are fully able to compete in market opportunities”, says John Gibson, President and CEO of the PGAA.

“We are very thankful for the Federal and Provincial Governments continued support and investment in the North Pacific Corridor Project. This announcement demonstrates the commitment by our Provincial and National leadership in developing Canada as an International Gateway”, states Jim Blake, Chair of the PGAA.

The 6.6 km Boundary Road Connector will link Highway 97 South to Highway 16 East, creating easy highway access for the future Airport Logistics Park.  The  initial plan for the projct was for a 4 lane road, but that has been scaled back to 2 lanes, reducing the price tag to $28 million fro the initial $48 million dollar estimate.

The Federal and Provincial Government's are in for $7.5 million dollars each,  and the City will  share the balance with airport area  land owners who have already  given  letters of credit  for their $6 million dollar portion of the final bill.

isnt this allready existing in the old cariboo hwy???
I, as a taxpayer am absolutely thrilled to be able to pay for this road, so that the Federal and Provincial Governments, along with the City, and the Airport Authority who all work for and get paid by the Taxpayers can take some bows, and accolades while they channel our dollars into a project that will at best benefit those who own this proposed Industrial Park.

In the meantime I will diligently continue to pay high taxes, including the PST and GST, (HST) so that both Government and Business can continue to live a life style to which they feel entitled, while I and others foot the bill.

Have a nice day.
Much like palopu, I'm also thrilled as a taxpayer to be absorbing a good portion of the risk for this little project.
I'm not paying taxes any more. I'm going to move to the friendship lodge. It looks ok to me. Why doesn't everyone apply?
Fix the damn roads around the city first! Boundary Rd like the runway extension is a waste of money.
Does anyone know whether the development cost charges for the properties, including Rempel's, will allow the CIty to recover the cost of this road since, without it, his land would be virtually unusable.

I think it should be recoverd, at least on a 50% basis, and the money recovered over time, as the land gets bought up over say 20 years, goes into the City's road maintenance fund. That way we would at least see some benefit other than a lot of warehousing with about as few jobs per 10,000 sf of building as one can get.
