Its called "Physician Connect" and it will give doctorsaccess to Northern Health  information systems, paving the way for doctors to have fast and secure access to test results and other diagnostic information.

“This project is not about technology. Rather, it’s the first step in building stronger links between physicians’ offices and Northern Health’s information systems. In the very near future, this link will serve as an information highway for physicians to quickly and securely retrieve laboratory results, diagnostic images, and other key pieces of information that they need to make clinical decisions for improved health services,” said Northern Health Chief Information Officer Joseph Mendez.

Until recently, Northern BC physicians have used a variety of methods to access patient information from their offices. Many have not had electronic access to NH’s clinical systems at all.

Physicians in twelve communities across Northern BC have chosen to take part in this project. The goal of Physician Connect is to provide the new wide area broadband network connections to 95 per cent of all doctors across Northern BC by this winter.

Physician Connect will cost a total of $1.2 million for hardware, software, and ten years of wireless service. The system is capable of providing services to as many as 500 physicians.

I wonder if they will be able to review the research from the new animal experimental lab that is going into the Northern Medical Building up at UNBC. We sure didn't hear a big announcement from UNBC when this construction project started.

Have any physicians in Prince George signed on to this?

I am somewhat surprised that they didn't have this kind of access before. Who is paying the bill for this? Is Physician Connect" a private venture, and if so how is confidential patient information safeguarded?
