Prince George, B.C.-  The City of Prince George  has received an honourable mention in the 2009 Energy & Climate Action Awards handed out at the Union of B.C. Municipalities Convention in  Vancouver.

Prince George was recognized for implementing a broad spectrum of innovative initiatives " demonstrating city‐wide dedication and commitment to reducing greenhouse gases."

The Town of Gibsons won the Community Planning and Development category for  development of the Upper Gibsons Neighbourhood Plan. The centerpiece of this neighbourhood plan is the new  Upper Gibsons Geoexchange . The first of its kind in North America, this system, which will be owned and operated by the municipality, will provide renewable earth energy heating to all new buildings in Upper Gibsons, reducing GHG emissions from heating and hot water by an astonishing 96% (1,450 tonnes). This  project will result in energy cost savings of $350,000 annually and about 1/3 of that will be returned to residents as energy cost savings.

The District of Lake Country has won the award in the Corporate Operations category for the Lake Country Hydroelectric Generating Station, a low impact micro‐hydro project that harnessed the power of the existing high elevation water supply system to produce clean, green energy. The municipally owned and operated hydro project, which is the first of this type to sell power back to BC Hydro, will produce approximately 3900 Megawatt‐hours of emission‐free, renewable electricity per year, enough to power roughly 400 homes.

Green house gas, where is the peer reviewed science proving that C02 is causing any warming. I don't mean a computer program, but real science. Lets see there has been a global decrease in temperature, arctic ice is recovering after being blown out of the arctic by winds, polar bears are doing just fine, antarctic ice volume is still increasing like it has always done. But there has been over 79 billion spent on globull warming research over the last 20 years in the U.S. alone. Me thinks there just might be a little bias in chasing grant money.

It has been recently discovered that one of the building blocks that warming scientists use all over the world has been called into question, the hockey stick graph. This graph supposedly shows a steep global rise in temperature over the last 20 years, remember that 79 billion spent in the last 20 years. Turns out this graph is based on tree rings of just 12, yes just 12 cherry picked trees in northern Russia. Wow good scam.

Yes it is good to cut down pollution, but C02 is not pollution, its a money maker but is not polluting.

Check these websites icecap.us wattsupwiththat.com

This website belongs to the canadian that blew the hockey stick out of the water www.climateaudit.org

Check out what BS the schools are teaching are kids about climate!
There isn't any real science to sustantiate that. Just like there isn't any damn thing we can do about warming or cooling. The CO2 we put into the air is the equvalent of a 'fart in a hurricane'.
That statement was made by one of the worlds leading climatologists. When you count how many continuous volcanoes are belching out gases (including under the waters) you will come to your senses about the big CO2 scam.
That Upper Gibsons Geoexchange is the way to go! Hopefully we will do something like that in Prince George!

There are solar, tidal, wind, geothermal and wave energies all around us that can be utilized for the energy we require.

The air we breathe will be cleaner and the part of global warming caused by human fossil fuel burning will not be a source of endless arguments any more!

Just imagine how much cleaner the P.G. airshed would be if there were no fossil fuel burning emissions at all!

Everything electric: cars, trucks, buses, trains, residences, businesses!

Undoubtedly that is the way of the future!
So what happens when the wind don't blow, the sun don't shine, its ebb tide and geo thermal hasen't been seen to be prectical on a large scale. There are no easy answers for sources of energy.

Control pollution yes, and having electric vehicles in cities may be a good idea, but not so workable up north. One has to ask where their charging power comes from.

C02 is not a pollutant, its a requirement for life. As for C02 causing global warming to any great degree, show me the proof, there isen't any. Oh yes as the C02 has been increasing the world has been cooling, unforeseen by those wonderful computer programs

Windpower, just think of all the roads and power lines needed. One 500 megawatt thermal power plant covers about 400 acres while the equivalent wind farm would cover 8000 acres. Windfarms kill tens of thousands of birds every year. Ask the Danes how their windfarms are doing? They have to build thermal power plants for energy when the wind don't blow.

Sorry to say it but fossil fuels will be around for a long time yet. Do some digging in the internet and don't believe what you see or hear from main stream media.
How long will I have to wait to purchase a F-150 electric truck to pull my electric boat to the lake? Be specific. Globull warming is worse than what Bernie Madoff accomplished.
I agree with seamutt.
I just don't see it happening, other than on a very limited basis.
Set-up costs are a deterent and reliability is hit and miss at best, when it comes to wind power.
And yes, land to build on is aconsideration as well.
And again, things like solar power would have already been been a dominant power source if it was what it is proclaimed to be.
Again,set-up and equipment costs.
Look at Ballard Power (T-BLD)...in the toilet because Hydrogen technology is just too damn expensive!
Talk to someone with a hybrid who has had to replace the batteries.
We also need to consider consumer costs which WILL be passed on.
Fossil fuels will be around for long time!
The best we can hope for is development of ways to maximize fuel economy in all vehicles, which still has a very long way to go yet.
