For the first time in in the 40 year history of the transit system in Prince George, the transit system carried one million passengers.
The one millionth passenger was identified as Ms. Selena Conway. Selena received a number of awards and gifts including a one-year Transit Pass for the 2006 calendar year.
“Our Transit System works great and I use the bus for all of my transportation needs,” says Selena. “The Transit drivers make my trips more enjoyable as well. They are really wonderful.”
A strong supporter of the Transit system and a Board Member of BC Transit, Mayor Colin Kinsley noted that it was truly encouraging news. “With transit ridership growing in the Municipal Systems Program we have seen a 21% increase this year over last year's ridership statistics,” says Mayor Kinsley.
In congratulating the community on its efforts to improve transit service, BC Transit's Senior Vice President, Municipal Systems Program, Steve New said that “Moving into double digit increases is impressive and the City of Prince George is to be commended for its efforts in meeting the transportation needs of its community through public transit service improvements and promotions.”
