Prince George, B.C.- Flu season is here, and Northern Health is set to launch the first round of flu shots.

On Tuesday, the first round of seasonal flu shots will available for those at highest risk for seasonal flu only:

• People aged 65 years and older
• Residents in long-term care homes

A pneumococcal vaccine will also be available at the same time for seniors and those with chronic medical conditions; this vaccine helps to protect against pneumonia, which is the most common complication of influenza.

“While we do believe H1N1 to be the predominant strain of influenza this season,” says Dr. David Bowering, Chief Medical Health Officer, “seasonal influenza is still a serious health threat for individuals in at-risk categories, such as the elderly.”

The  second round of flu shots, for the H1N1 flu, will be rolled out in November to everyone who needs or wants it.

The seasonal flu vaccine will be offered again in early 2010 to everyone else who falls under the usual eligibility guidelines.

I've been hearing a lot of controversy regarding the flu vaccines...

The following has been taken from: http://www.canada.com/Spread+H1N1+gains+speed/2080575/story.html

The study, led by the B.C. centre's Danuta Skowronski, suggests people under 50 are twice as likely to contract H1N1 if immunized to seasonal flu, compared to those who don't get immunized. The puzzling findings haven't been substantiated elsewhere in the world.

Another website to look at is...

So, what now?? Who is going to line up for the vaccine? And what are your thoughts on it?
My thoughts are that you can find a website to support pretty much anything that you suspect or believe.
There is so much information out there on both sides of the debate. The way I look at it is, I have never gotten the sesonal flu shots and I rarely even get a cold. Therefore I will not be lining up for any shots. For those who are used to recieving the shots for health reasons should probably get the regular flu shot. I personally would not get the H1N1 shot because I do not believe it has been tested properly. To much rush and to many doctors and scientists refusing to take it. Something does not feel right to me. They say that this shot has not been tested on infants and pregnant women yet that is the group they are targeting to have it first. I sense something is wrong.
saw a World Health Organisation doctor on the tube some 6-8 months ago stating the H1N1 appeared to be part swine flu, part avian flu, and part synthetic or lab created.
have also heard, unsubstantiated, that the H1N1 flu shot patent was filed a year before the flu had even appeared.
things that make you go Hmmmm!
I won't be getting a shot, but I don't know what I'll do if they say my infant needs one.
Govsux,
Who is telling you that your infant needs one? Your infant, as small as it is, is equipped to fight off illness if you keep it healthy with healthy food. Our bodies thrive on good food.

I will not be getting either of the shots for any of my family members. Including my infant son.
