Sorry for the results but this comes as no surprise what so ever.
I echo your thoughts, seamutt. A preventable accident, no doubt.
Geeze, have a little respect people.
I drove by that accident saturday eve ... Got there before the emergency teams did

was not a pretty sight

No license, no insurance, no registration, no nothing. Same as those old folks in their motorized wheelchairs and scooters. Two separate laws or just one with a blind eye? Double standard or just honest and understanding interpretation of said law?
That Shamrock Road is a classic example of a road that should not have access to the highway... or is it a highway... one never knows in this town the way the roads and traffic paterns are designed.

Only last week the biggest fool I know of in this town T-boned an RCMP suburban respnding to a roberry in the Hart at that very exact spot. Karma I guess... now less than a week later a biker is hit at the same spot.

Lots of dirt bikes cross there, because there is a dirt bike track up near McMillin Creek on that side of the highway, and a very good access trail on further up Shamrock on the scales side of the highway... a lot of dirt bikers cross at that spot... a barrier is not going to stop dirt bikers, but it will stop vehicles or snow mobiles, or street bikers from making that very same mistake that has closed the highway twice in almost as many days because a side road access is located where one never should be for a major highway through road like that.

This death is nothing but an unfortunate accident, but the circumstances should be seen as a wake up call for the potential threat that has always lurked at that most unneeded and unnecisary crossing.

The house on the corner has been rebuilt a half dozen times now from vehicles in accidents at that intersection landing in the living room... that would be a sign IMO the intersection is not safe.

I don't know who was involved in this accident, but my condolences go out to them. I would think its horrible for everyone involved.
6:30 is the dusk hour when its impossible nearly to see a dirt bike with no head lights in the glare of the setting sun... I would bet that played a factor in the accident. The rider of the bike had added responsibility as such.
Harbinger... its a double standard... or it should be anyways. There would be far more carnage if a pursuit was to take place every time a dirt bike was engaged in pursuit. It would be a no win solution. Sometimes its best just to let people be free and face the consequences of their own actions. I'm sure most bikers would agree its a risk they take knowingly.
You can barely see a person walking on the Hart, let alone a high speed bike jumping out in front of you. All the traffic islands are invisible at night as well as the black and yellow warning signs. The signs are so filthy they won't reflect any light. The over head street lights glare in your face because they do not have a shield to force the light downward; same as most of the lights in this city. The whole Hart scenario is a pending accident.
What's important to City Council?? More bike lanes, more heritage trails, help for the homeless,a new cenotaph, picking on Brian, Updating all the services to the downtown police station while a new station is planned; the list is endless. Who needs roads??
holy flip supertech - this is a tragic accident of which we know very few details, yet city hall is to blame? Cleaning the reflectors would have saved this? The overhead lights should only point straight down as a spotlight?
When people see their neighbors coming and going on public streets on dirt bikes, atv's and snowmobiles call crimestoppers. If you don't and then there is an incident, just think maybe you could have prevented it, and you have the rest of your life to think about it.
"When people see their neighbors coming and going on public streets on dirt bikes, atv's and snowmobiles call crimestoppers"

And will do what?

I called the RCMP directly when there was someone with a snowmobile in a park in my neighbourhood in the bowl. They left the park and sped along the street (which was not snow covered since it was spring and there was still snow in the park).

The RCMP came out and checked the fellows license and insurance. Gave him a warning or something.

I called bylaw services. They did not realize there was a law in this city that stated one cannot ride snowmobiles in city parks and on city streets. They, also, did not give a "chit".

Let's face it people. It's still the wild west yahoo attitude here whether it is the riders of those vehicles or those who make and enforce the laws.

It is due to that attitude that some people will eventually get killed.

It the by-product of an "I really do not give a chit attitude, but I'll humour you with your complaint just to keep you quiet."

Condolences???? .. maybe .... but it' like alcoholism. Until people recognize it is a problem that THEY have, it will not be solved.
A friend of mine was right there when it happened. The bike 'shot' across the hiway without stopping. City's not to blame for that accident. The bike rider is and he won't do it again and what's tragic is the stupid factor? My comments about the hart lighting is true. Lots of city lights (elsewhere) have shields that keep the glare out of your eyes. I remember throwing rocks at them in the 50's in Edmonton and they are not spot lights.
.The speed of light is slower in various materials than it is in a vacuum or outer space. When the light passes into a material at an angle, the light beam is bent or refracted according to Snell's Law and the index of refraction of the material. But also, the speed of light through a material varies slightly with the wavelength or frequency of the light. Thus, each wavelength is refracted at a slightly different angle when passing through a material at an angle. This spreading out of the beam of light is called dispersion or chromatic dispersion.
WOW.sure you guys have an opinion but come on.billy joe baker was a friend of mine who left behind children family and many friends.sh*@ happens.but it doesnt make it right.i wasnt there but give the family a break.WOW is all i could say.if the family or friends seens this stuff u people said they would freak out.

R.I.P. billy joe baker.

p.s.
have a lil respect
eagle one I know who you are you better watch who you call biggest fool. I say it's you.
You're right "somedude', I tried to tone it down and fool was not the right word, I can think of a lot of worse things to say... tried not to be vindictive. At least I will always know I live with honesty and integrity that is above that of a coniving low life devoid of morals that has no class, no work ethic, and will rip off his best friend to make a dollar. I gave you everything you have, so you should just be thankfull and move along and learn like the rest of us to accept your fate.

You are correct that I was more the fool for thinking your business intentions were genuine, and that the word of a friend is gold. Big mistake that I learned the hard way. You think you 'won', but reality is you were more of a liability than anything, and I know when to cut my loses with a loser that will stab in the back with convoluted logic someone that had put faith in your word. I don't need friends or business investors like that. Time will tell who the real loser will end up being, and I think you already know who that is. I know myself I'd rather be the percieved fool, then the cirtified loser... and I know I'm not a sore loser that lacks integrity.

As for your threats 'somedude'... you know you don't scare me... you should be thankful I've kept my mouth shut about your business paractices all these years, because if I was vindictive I could have made your life hell... worse than you made it for yourself.

If you are angry about your future prospects, than be aware and honest that it is entirely your own making and I have no responsibility for that... just as your incident with the RCMP suburban. The least you could do is accept one anonymous sentance to gloat... because thats what it was and I paid a lot to earn it.

Good Luck, because you'll neeed it.
As for friends of Billy I'm sorry to cross contaminate your grief with a story of another accident at the same loction two days prior. I feel bad for that, and appologize if it caused you any further stress. I think when its an unnamed person in a news story people don't see it as personal as it otherwise is to others that are more close to the persons effected. I appologize to those people if my comments were taken as offensive.

RIP Mr Baker
eagle one how did I screw you over? did you get brain dammage over the last 10 years
Since you guys seem to know each other, could you possibly take your arguments to e-mai?
