Prince George, B.C.- While the year to date building stats for the Regional District of Fraser Fort George are well behind the same period last year, the month to month comparison show some encouraging signs.
January to September numbers show 320 permits were issued this year compared to 409 permits a year ago.
But the good news seems to be in the comparison of September 2009 to September 2008.
Last month there were 8 single family dwelling permits issued, compared to 6 permits issued in September of last year.    As the chart below indicates, there more permits for single family dwellings, additions, and plumbing permits issued  last month compared to September of last year, and the value of the permits was higher as well.

The stats are almost irrelevant, because when you are talking about nothing a small change can statistically look important.... Had we had 100 starts last year and it changed by 25% then it would be meaningful statistically, but had a 100 starts changed to 102, then we would say its irrelevant.

With the PG construction numbers I think all stats are irrelevant in predicting any trends in the economy.

The PG building scene is almost non-existant and I would sugest doesn't even keep pace with replacement of existing inventory on a whole... we are still a city that is in economic and population decline, as we have been for the last 20-years.

Well, that's a first. I actually agree with something Eagleone has said.

I just want someone to do something with those abandoned half-finished houses on Tyner.
Maybe move themn down to the Fraser River Bench, because that will be Tyner 2 in the next decade....
Tyner homeless shelter?

Who believes these stats? It seems that every month some organization announces proudly that there has been growth in their industry. With real estate it is often the BC real estate board.

So if we are having growth in all these industries, including real estate, are we having a financial crisis or not?
Is our economy in the tank or are we just being lied to (again) so the big financiers can recover from the mess they created?
