Why do truckers figure they should "drag" race their loaded rigs down the bypass, on the Hart and pretty much every other four lane road there is. Just what are they trying tp prove? That they can hold up traffic? Or just to piss you off?
Just a reminder that any morning now snow will be on our roads and highways. This taditionaly happens this time of year. This snow is just as slippery as last year, so slow down. Don't blame anyone becasue you did not prepare for winter and you have an accident. It's not the city's fault, that you think it's still summer.
30 million dollar bonuses for the employees working for the Olympics if they stay till the end. Did they take the job thinking it was never going to end? Or did they take the job to jump ship before they finished? Their bonus is IE for a year is it not? Why does the average taxpayer have no say were the dollars are spent? I guess in terms of percentages 30 million is not bad so why not, I’m sure the games will make money and be within budget.
Check this out, another major store transferring their jobs out of the Canada and over 500 losing their jobs. I won't shop there anymore.

Checked out the link mythoughts, and thanks.
This is something that concerns me, and has done for number of years.
What the hell is wrong with our government?
This should NOT be allowed to take place!
If a company makes it's profits in Canada, then they should no option but to EMPLOY canadians in Canada!
This makes me sick, and it has happened far too often over a number of years!
(Dell...great for those who don't speak english)
I am not sure what the solution is,other than it has to be dealt with at a political level.
Fat chance that's going to happen!

to answer your question about why truckers "race" their rigs on the bypass and down the Hart.

Its simple. Truck drivers are no different than any other profession, cops, lawyers, carpenters, some are good and some are idiots.

There is a certain logging firm in this town who have blue trucks who seem to attract allot of the less desirable truckers, but that is not because of the industry, but their pay scale, they pay about 20% less than other firms, therefor they get the leftovers.

One other thing to consider, when your driving around town, watch the regular vehicle traffic, see how many less than desirable drivers there are, then watch the trucks, you will see the number is far, far less.
The round about.

Do any of you have a freaking clue how to signal on a roundabout?

YOU DO NOT SIGNAL WHEN ENTERING, THAT IS THE ONLY DIRECTION YOU CAN GO!!

BUT BUT BUT BUT

YOU DO SIGNAL WHEN YOU EXIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems that only about 10% signal when they exit, leaving oncoming traffic sitting there while you whip in and out thinking how great you are. Meanwhile your signal light is still flashing from when you entered because you dont turn your wheel far enough to automaticly shut it off.

This slow the flow down considerabley. Get your minds off your cell phones and your breakfast in your left hand and start to think about what your doing.
Hey Stompim Tom - Great Advice Sir

And I agree with what you have said. If anyone out there's wants the recommendations as provided by ICBC then go here http://www.icbc.com/road-safety/safer-roads/roundabouts for the complete rundown on roundabouts.

In a roundabout way it's pretty good advice (that was kind of an attempt on a joke there... LOL... okay I'll stop!)

Thanks for the link MyThoughts, I too will rethink any purchases I make at that store. If they can't give a Canadian those jobs then why should we buy their products?
Funny how just about everyone is against the idea of 'American Protectionism', and 'Buy American', but when the shoe is on the Canadian foot, the concept seems all right. Hmmm...

It's not up to the government to stop them; it's up to the consumer. If you, as a consumer, don't like the way a business operates then you don't patronize that business.

In regards to the call center closing and its indications of the state of our economy: we did it to ourselves.

We all want the best wages and cheapest goods. Now we have it. Canadians are some of the top income earners in the world, yet we insist on buying cheap Asian manufactured products. Why would other countries buy our goods when we don't even want to pay the required price for domestically produced goods. The price per unit is tied to total cost of production, part of which is wages.

That call center was operated by a venerable Canadian institution. This is an indicator of their fiscal health.
Right on the money Loki. Very few people make the connection between the consumer choices we all make on a day to day basis and the state of the national economy. There are no easy answers, people don't want to volunteer to pay substantially more for domestic goods and services, but we shouldn't be surprised when jobs are lost. We are competing on a global scale and cannot operate in a bubble.
Faxman....I don't patronize Sears...never have since they were bought out.
And it is the responsibilty of government to ensure that all major corporations in Canada employ as many canadians as possible.
Any company that makes it's profits in Canada should have a legal obligation to do that!
Of course we also know the government will never allow that to be criteria for setting up shop in Canada.
Sorry Andyfreeze; I must disagree. We cannot live in a bubble and live in a global economy at the same time. With a population of about 30 million people we can't possibly maintain a protectionist mentality; our economy would crumble in minutes.
About the 30 million dollars in bonus:

Is this going to be paid to them with tax payer money?

"If a company makes it's profits in Canada, then they should no option but to EMPLOY canadians in Canada!"

Can you afford to pay more for absolutely everything? Because that will be the result.
Since funding seems to be cut back for public schools, does anyone know if public funding is also being cut back at private schools?
Who is that platinum blond in the Oktoberfest ad? I think I know her!
I'm pretty sure I know the brunette on the posters, just can't figure out where. She probably kicked me in da crotch when I was drunkened.
Excellent editorial in today's newspaper. It is titled "Communicating That The City Wastes Money"
Loki:-"Why would other countries buy our goods when we don't even want to pay the required price for domestically produced goods. The price per unit is tied to total cost of production, part of which is wages."
-----------------------------------------
If the "price per unit is tied to the TOTAL cost of production", yet only a PART of those costs are "wages" then how are those "wages" alone supposed to fully liquidate the TOTAL "costs" they're only a PART of?

VANOC has got to be the most despicable organization ever formed in this province!
