Prince George, B.C.- Starting next week, H1N1 vaccine will be available to British Columbians. It will mark the start of the largest immunization program ever undertaken in this province.
Dr. Perry Kendall, Provincial Health Officer, says the priority listing for distribution of the vaccine during the first week will be for:
· Health care workers, first responders
· Pregnant women,
· People under 65 with underlying health conditions,
· First Nations and all who live in rural and remote communities.
The following week, the vaccine will be rolled out to those:
Health care workers and those high risk who were not able to receive the vaccine in the first week and children 6 months to 5 yrs of age
After that, the vaccine will be available to all who want it.
Two hundred thirty thousand doses had been shipped around the province earlier this week, but Dr. Perry Kendall says there will be enough vaccine arriving weekly to ensure that all British Columbians can receive the vaccine. He has also said new research shows the H1N1 vaccine can be co-administered with the seasonal flu shot, with one shot in each arm.
Dr. Kendall says while there may be a feeling of urgency to receive the vaccine, he asks that the healthy members of the public stand back and let those who are at higher risk to receive it first.
People who have serious allergies to eggs should not get the vaccine.
Northern Health will release it's vaccination clinic information as those plans are finalized.

Not a problem...I'm not having the shot. I'm healthy, never get the flu, never get the flu shot and don't intend on starting now. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I do notice that some of the people I know, get the flu shot every year and end up getting the flu.
