Prince George, B.C.- The P.A.R.T.Y. program has received a financial boost from the RCMP Foundation.
A cheque in the amount of $1,500 has been presented to the Prince George Safe Attitudes and Actions Society which is responsible for the P.A.R.T.Y. program.
P.A.R.T.Y. stands for Prevent Alcohol and Risk related Trauma to Youth. The program has run for eleven years in Prince George and involves taking grade ten students to Prince George Regional Hospital for a reality check on what happens when a person is involved in a crash   in which risky behaviours or alcohol were involved.
Students are split into three groups, one is taken into an emergency room setting, others go to the hospital chapel to witness a mock funeral, and the remaining third of the class head to the morgue. They students rotate through all three areas until lunch time when they are asked to imagine their lives with a permanent disability because of a crash.
The program has been so successful, other communities in Canada have come to Prince George to find out more information on how to make it work in their particular settings.
This is the third year the RCMP foundation has made a donation to this program.

Comments

This is a very worthwhile program because it is reality based.
This is a great story. And a great example of how partnerships can benefit our community, especially our young people. In my eyes, Susan Scott is an angel living amongst us.
It is unfortunate when people post comments that are irrelevant to the story and highly disrespectful.
