Prince George, B.C.- Next week, Dr. Michael Wosnick will be in Prince George to talk, about the positive impact research is having on battling cancer.
Dr. Wosnick is the Scientific Director for the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute and Vice-President of Research for the Canadian Cancer Society.
As the Executive Director of the NCIC for almost 7 years, and more than 30 years of experience in the academic, biotechnology and not-for-profit sectors, Dr. Wosnick's presentations build both understanding and commitment for cancer research.
“With the development of the Northern Cancer Clinic commencing shortly and our Northern Cancer Lodge on the horizon we want you to have this opportunity to hear about the progress being made in cancer research,” says Margaret Jones-Bricker, Regional Manager for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Research progress, some of the ways in which we are fighting this disease, and why the future is hopeful, are key components of Dr. Wosnick’s presentation.
At the beginning of 2005, there were 695,000 people (or one in 46 Canadians) living with a cancer that had been diagnosed sometime in the previous 10 years. There were also approximately 724,000 tumours diagnosed in Canadians in the previous ten years.
Although the number of new cases of cancer is increasing because of Canada’s aging and growing population, overall cancer survival has improved over this period. Improvements in detecting cancer and improved treatments have increased survival.
Dr. Wosnick's presentation will be Tuesday, November 3rd – 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Exploration Place
