Manley McLachlin President and CEO of the BC Construction Association and Rosalind Thorn President  of the B.C. Construction Association North put their best foot forward into the "STEP" program

Prince George, B.C.-  The BC Construction Association North has  launched the STEP program.

The Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP) is a free service aimed at connecting people to employers and  trades training.

STEP also works with employers to make sure they can find the skilled workers they need.  Through STEP,  clients are able to upgrade their skills or breakdown any of the barriers to employment.

STEP has specialized employment councillors who will work with employers and   individuals  from  assessment through follow up once they have landed employment.

STEP is geared toward people who are non EI clients or employed in a low skilled position and lack certification, a high school diploma or essential skills.

Anyone looking for more information on the STEP program in the north can  click here.

Photo OP? If some one told them to jerk their head and make clucking noises, they'd all look like chickens.
A skilled trades job hookup program. Tells the true state of the job market, doesn't it?
Best of luck to all involved.
I think this is a good thing. Its much better then bringing in foreigners because the employers pretend they don't have an employee pool to draw from. This will mitigate that corporate argument and gainfully employ more Canadians. Plus I'm sure this will be able to help a lot of people that otherwise wouldn't have gotten the assistance they needed to become productive.
Seems like a good move to me too, Eagleone.

Its time we all started pulling together and switch to figuring out "how CAN we do it" instead of the never ending "how CAN"T we do it", some of us seem to prefer to spout endlessly !

"Course, its obvious there's a lot of armchair politicians out there who would hate to see BC prosper in any way just yet, because (at least in their eyes), we're still under the "wrong" government !!

Hopefully they're all too busy now trying to be carefull they don't miss any chances to ensure the Olympics actually DO pull us under, like they've been constantly predicting it would, to beat this one up too badly before it has a chance to do some good for us.

It is a excellent program, we need to be self sufficient population. We do not need everyone to go to unervisity and get a degree. We need hands on people.

I have been in this industry for thirty years, and the young people entering the construction industry has changed. They are well educated and are carreer orientated. twenty years ago, if you could not make it anywhere else you worked in construction.

In fact I will not hire kids unless they have a dogwood or equal. that is for a position as a labourer. If the kid is a smart ass, I would ask for the school attendence record, thus the point is, if they are not attending school, they are not going to show up for work.
