Now is that lumber we have sent over there, or lumber they have produced from the logs they get from BC?

No No thats not lumber from our logs it lumber we have manufactured and donated to the tune of 800 thousand dollars for the poor in china.
It is a common practice in BC for the government to provide seed money so that tne lumber producers can make more profit.
Our City has also adopted that practice. Take the winter games. We will use 9 million tax dollars so that the businesses can reape 90 million for their pocket. This is a new phase in free enterprise. The idea of using seed money provided by the business comunity would be to risky. Its a changing world out there who can tell when communism will take over. But thats where we are going,
Cheers

Its not Communism Retired its Capitaluism, and your right. Let the taxpayers take the risk, and the business can move in and make the big bucks.
This goes on all the time, and the amazing thing is that most Canadians are not even aware its happening. Whats that all about???
Every little City in Canada has been conned into building a Sport Centre, or a Multiplex, or an Arts Centre, or a Performing Arts Centre. Quite often it is the same Companies doing the bulding and they go from City to City and sell their ideas. City Councils buy in, and taxpayers pick up the tap.
Of course no one uses the facilities, and then we have the additional burden of staffing, maintenance, heat, etc; which costs us a fortune.
Ahhhh Capitaluism, you gotta love it.

Palopu, can you give me an example of a great liveable city (meaning a city where a large volume of people would want to live) that doesn't invest in facilities like those you mentioned?

More single family houses will be built out of wood in Surrey BC this year, than in all of China. Our government trips to that country are nothing more than pr trips for propoganda purposes that essentially are nothing more than charity on behalf of the people of BC dressed up as the Chinese savior to all our ill. Paid for political capital by those that would rob us of our herritage.
Apartment building in China are built out of concrete. They are removing people from land by force, so where will they find the land to build houses of wood frame construction when a wood frame construction is viewed as inferior over a long term Chinese perspective?
I for one doubt that all of China combined will ever build as many single family wood frame homes as the province of BC builds in a year. I would think India would be 100 times the 'market' than China would ever have the potential under its communist leadership to ever become. Central planning politically doesn't allow for single family wood frame homes... only a fool would think otherwise.
