Prince George, B.C. – The matter of the construction of the parkade for the former Chances Gaming Centre will be reviewed by Deloitte –Touche, and an independent third party will review the report.

The call for a review   came in the wake of Councilor Brian Skakun seeking access to hundreds of documents which relate to the construction of the underground parking lot.

While Council agrees there is a need for an independent look at the project, it has expressed confidence that when the review is complete, the public’s questions will have been answered and the Council of the day will be vindicated.
The review will call upon Deloitte-Touche to:
·       Review the documents related to the Gaming Centre parkade
·       Conduct interviews required to gain an understanding of relevant events
·       Review financial and other records
·       Prepare a report and present it directly to Council.

It is expected the review will cost about $20,000.

Councilor Brian Skakun welcomes the  review, he has been questioning the construction and the costs of the project since it was approved several years ago.
The parkade has been under a cloud of suspicion and the Mayor says he supports the audit as it provides transparency.   He has already asked the President of the College of New Caledonia, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce to look at the audit as the second level of review. It is expected the audit will start this week.   It is not known how long it will take to complete this review.

How about a forensic audit???
What about the townhouses that were supposed to be built?
Perhaps we could have another audit of weather the $20,000 could have been better used for snow removal?
Now while we are at it why dosent Deloitte-Touche do an audit on how our City is being managed. That would be even more interesting.
Cheers
We elect these officials to make decisions. Now, 3 years later, we spend $20k for outsiders to audit those decisions. Great use of our tax dollars !

And the driving force behind it - Skakun. He was on council the whole time.....

$81 million taxpayers $ going to a Casino that a forensic auditor says is only valued at a maximum of around $20 million and could be totally worthless as well.

I think we need to look at projects more from this point of view. Where is the money that we have, best spent. Biggest bang for our $.
