Prince George, B.C.- Time is running out to have  your say on how Prince George of the future will be shaped.
Until December 16th,   the window will  be open for community input on the long term “myPG” project which is the community sustainability plan.

Councillor Garth Frizzell is excited about the new ideas that will come forward “The first community engagement in developing myPG is called “Envisioning the Future” and will produce ‘big ideas’ about how people want to see Prince George grow and change in the future.”

This week, a second method of input is being provided. This is a short survey for individuals and takes about 5 minutes to complete. The short survey is available online by clicking here where you can download it as a PDF, or you can  fill it out on line.   Copies of the short survey are also available at City Hall.

Perhaps not enough input. Could it be stakeholder fatigue? Could it be planning is a very difficult subject that can't really be done without deep thinking and people intuitively know that and don't have the energy at the end of the day, after paying all those city taxes, to do more free work?

Have no fear - time is not running out. There is an election in two years when you'll get to have your say again.
Open ended survey...not sure how much will be accuracy will be gained. Is MyPG reinventing the wheel? What happened to the OCP? This survey gives me the impression there is no plan.
Could someone focus on the present please! We are living and experiencing probelms right now that need immediate reponses, not pie in the sky stuff.

50 years?

Did anyone plan for 2010 in 1960? Just a reminder. The pulp mills were not here yet but likely already more than a gleam in someone's eyes. In 1970, 40 years ago, PG was predicted to have a population well over 100,000 by 2000. Not to be.

This town is not able to get iinput from people. It does not make for a credible plan when there will be likely be only those who are already "plugged in" anyway who will be responding. Or maybe not even them since they know that they can get to the front of the line at anytime anyway.

There is nothing on governance in the document presented to us.

myPG will be a place where people have learned how to provide meaningfull input, where City Hall respects that input and will follow that advice to the best of their ability and a place where that input show up in plans adopted by City Hall input.

All the rest is moot, because when that system fucntions properly we can do tons of planning and that planning will reflect the need of the majority as well as significant minorities.

Without that functioning properly, all the goals and plans in the world will be for nothing.
Gus makes a great point about planning and time horizons. Former Prime Minister Paul Martin, when he was the Finance Minister, said planning more than 2 years out was a waste of time because no one can see that far.

Truly, I think it's even shorter today.
True enough bohemian. I have enough trouble planning what to make for dinner!
