Kettle Campaign Launched

Prince George, B.C.- The   Salvation Army will launch its annual Christmas Kettle campaign today in Prince George. This is a week earlier than the normal launch of the campaign, but the fund raising runs through to the 24th of December.
This year, the goal is $232 thousand dollars, up from the $225 thousand   goal of last year.
The Salvation Army says with the current economic situation, it is seeing people who traditionally donated now utilizing the services.
Last year, the Salvation Army assisted more than 200 people over the holidays,   but there are other programs which rely on the Salvation Army’s services throughout the year:
  • Prince George food bank provides ore than 3,000 hampers per year
  • Daily Bread and produce provides rations to 90 families each day
  • Neighbourhood café provides over 250 hot meals per week
  • Provided clothing, furniture and blankets 375 times per year
  • Operates the only infant food bank in northern B.C. and provided diapers and formula 706 times last year.
Other services include Christmas cheer packages, adopt a family summer camping programs, and emergency   disasters services, clothing and blankets, addictions rehabilitation and counselling.
With the Kettle Campaign  now officially underway, there is a need to get  volunteers to be at the kettles. Anyone  who is willing to volunteer is asked to   contact the   Salvation Army office at 250-564-4000 ext 24, or to drop by the office at 777 Ospika Boulevard.
