Time To Take Down The BC Rail Sign

Oh that BC Rail, it’s like the smell we get in the bowl many days, it just won’t go away.

We now learn that BC Rail which  still operates a bit of real estate here and there, has not forgot its old ways. The executive who remain after the sale, oops, "lease" of the railway to CN are still sucking away at the system, hoping like hell they won’t be caught earning salaries that we can only dream about while all the while sitting in offices that should be boarded up and leased out to someone who could give them some sensible use.

BC Rail was sold (leased) a long time ago. We have been told time and time again that we can’t go back to look at the sale  (sheesh  why can't I  get that  straight, LEASE, LEASE,LEASE) it’s a done deal. The question then is why do we need executives whose only effort to control costs was to cancel their  company  paid golf club memberships last year?

The Minister of Transportataion, Shirley Bond needs to step in and move some bodies or at least give them a broom so they can undertake some meaningful work. As it stands now, to suggest we need to pay this kind of coin, for this kind of work, is sheer nonsense.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion

Ben you are so right it is time to clean up the mess. There is also a man in van with a two word last name who should be the first to go as he has bled the bcr thing a way too long and done enough damage in PG
I also agree Ben. While they are at it they should be putting a cap on some of these wages these CEO's of government businesses such as Hydro make. The people of BC can no longer handle the blood sucking wages of over a million dollars a year. Ridiculous! Then they all have 50 or more slaves that actually DO THE WORK that WE the tax payers also pay. I for one am really sick of the government waste all while they tell us to live within our means. What a joke! Well no, actually is not a laughing matter. I am sure that there are young, capable, educated people out there that would do that job for a reasonable wage. IMO these positions are gifts to the friends in the back pocket of the one in charge. We really need to clean up the mess that our government has become. A prime example of this is Forestry which has expanded their personnel while forestry workers have lost their jobs at an alarming rate. BC rail is just one little part of the coruption in government.
CaringSoul what about the multi million dollor pay and perks in the private sector? Some what obscene don't you think.

"I am sure that there are young, capable, educated people out there that would do that job for a reasonable wage"

Hey why would these people want to work for peanuts campared to what they can get in the private sector.
I was refering to the people that THE TAX PAYERS PAY. The private sector has nothing to do with us. When all the jobs are filled in the private sector then I suppose you have to take what is left. It is not like those jobs come up that often anyway. I do not believe that the tax payers should be forced to pay these extreme wages just on the whim of the private sector. I am sure that if our government put a cap of salaries there would still be a lot of people lined up to work there.
Dear CaringSoul, I understand What you mean and I agree with You.
Isn't it BC RAIL PROPERTIES which has the gold-plated CEOs with nothing much to do?

I can't believe you'd get so confused so soon, and start blaming the BCRail trainmen for the sad turn of events since the freight operation was "leased" (for 999 years).

As for BC Hydro, there's a tragedy worth looking into. Once it was the shining example of how to produce cheap, clean electricity for British Columbia. Now it's been stripped of its transmission lines, crippled, and ordered to buy electricity here and there from Gordo's pals who are ripping up our rivers.

British Columbia Railway still owns BC Rail Properties, the Roberts Bank Rail System, and Vancouver Wharves.

These high paid dudes are in the process of selling off all the BC Rail property, and apparently hope to have the job done by 2013, however I suspect they will hang on to Vancouver Wharves, and Roberts Bank.

The sale of Roberts Bank Rail got caught up in the Basi scandal, so nothing will be done there until the court case is over. They have tried to sell Vancouver Wharves a couple of times over the years, but had no takers. CN Rail wasnt interested. It is presently leased to Kinder Morgan I beleive.
