Two P.G. Mounties Receive Awards for Valour

Prince George, B.C.-Two officers from the Prince George RCMP detachment, two from Vanderhoof and two from Dawson Creek are among the officers from across the province being recognized for exemplary service.
The annual ceremony is being held at Government House in Victoria this evening.
Corporal Paul Collister and Constable Tom Beck of the Prince George detachment are receiving awards of Valour. They placed themselves at personal risk to pursue armed suspects involved in a shooting incident. The two are among eleven to receive the award of valour for their acts of exceptional courage in the face of extreme hazard. Along with the traditional gold pin for valour, recipients will also be presented with a medal of valorous service.
Twenty-six officers will receive the award for meritorious service: a silver pin to recognize their exemplary performance and acting in a mannersignificantly beyond the standard normally expected.
Constable Christopher Brown and Constable Calvin Sanheim with the Vanderhoof detachment are among the 26 receiving an award for meritorious service. They rescued an unconscious man trapped in a burning vehicle located under a high-voltage power line.
Also receiving an award for meritorious service are Constable Cameron Long, Constable Matthew Turner of the Dawson Creek detachment. They tracked a man who was armed and suicidal through swampland, and then carried him to safety after he seriously injured himself.
