Marchers heading to  MLA Shirley Bond's constituency office
Prince George, B.C.- Shouting “Kill Bill….21” members of CUPE marched from the Days Inn two  blocks to  the 5th Avenue constituency office of Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Shirley Bond.
At issue is the legislation which  forced an end to the  ambulance workers 7 month strike. Yesterday the provincial government announced   an industrial inquiry  commission had been struck to examine many of the issues of concern   with the bargaining process for ambulance workers.
Some of the concerns to be addressed  were suggested by the union, however, the government says it has been  advised  CUPE doesn’t plan to take part in the Commission’s probe into the issues.
The Industrial Inquiry Commission  is to   present its final report on or before January 15th of 2010.
That  report is to provide the Province with  options for a colllective bargaining structure that support the efficient and effective delivery of ambulance services through different service delivery and operational models.  The report is non binding.

The Industrial Inquiry Commission will also investigate and prepare options regarding the following issues:

·         Staff recruitment, training, and retention;
·         Staff workload and occupational health and safety issues;
·         Deployment strategies in comparison with other Canadian ambulance service delivery models;
·         The models and rates of total compensation for ambulance paramedics and dispatchers applied by other jurisdictions in Canada based on:
          (a) wages;
          (b) premiums for hours worked and hours on-call in rural and remote areas;
          (c) benefits, including health and welfare benefits and pension plan; and

Any other related matter referred to the Industrial Inquiry Commission by mutual agreement of the parties.

CUPE is to the NDP what the IRA is to the Sinn Fein. kinda.
Really?

I wasn't aware that CUPE had ever set any bombs off. When did they do that, pray tell? When did CUPE kill people for a political objective? Oh, please do tell!

At best your comment is plain ignorance, at worst, malicious libel.

They are more like the Corporate banking system is to the liberals - strong financial supporters.
Militant wing. Don't get your panties in a twist.
About time somebody started rattling some chains!
We need more protests or we are going to be very sorry when they get done with us all!
They do it because they know they can get away with it!
We back off every time,just like we did with the HST.
What we REALLY need is damn good general strike!
We are fast coming into a time of serious debt and you know who they are coming to to pay for it!
Perhaps E.B.S.L. can pay my share of the Olympic bill that Gordo will lay at our feet just before he retires on his big fat pension.
Sure, just take it off what you civil servants owe me for overpaying you all these years.
BTW - It was the NDP that got the ball rolling on the Olympics. I didn't want em either but it's happening. Deal with it.
And this rally accomplished what? Be specific.
As if mobs of a "few" peasants or some spindly petitions can sway our governing officials at any level. I sure wouldn't want my country to be governed by special interest groups and by people with nothing better to do than protest. Take your inane ideals and answers and get someone to nominate you and run for public office. But then again, that is called work by some. Easier to take leave from Timmy's and go out and meander around someones constituency office. Want things to work the way you want it to? Work yer way to the top of the pyramid instead of milling about like a bunch of useless ants around the bottom of said pyramid. Then back to Tims where it is warm.
Harbinger....

Kinda agree with you.

The problem we have with the unions and NDP coalition is that when the "Dippers" lose...the campaign is continued by the unions until the next election rolls around. gotta hand it to them for their strategy, but what really burns me is the time off from their jobs they just "take" to do their demonstrations, their employers pay the bill for that. If anyone else does that, their pay is docked but if an employer tried to do that to a union member, then THEY would have a demonstration or protest on their hands....can't win.

Unions were formed for an honourable purpose and I support that beginning. Trouble is, unions spend so much time playing politics now the original purpose is long lost.

The NDP lost the last election...Campbell has a majority for another 3 years...like it or not...they won.. NDP lost....live with it.
Actually the union members book off the time and the union pays the employer for the time and benefits while the members are off doing Union business. It cost the employers nothing.That would have been the case for 100% of the people at the protest walk as well.
