Prince George, B.C.- It was  toss and turn on high seas between Prince Rupert and the Queen Charlotte Islands last night.
The Northern Adventure Ferry left Prince Rupert at 11:00  last night and a predicted storm hit earlier and harder than expected. The Ferry was battling high seas, and   stopped engines to ride it out.   The ferry was tossed around enough says B.C.Ferries Media spokesperson, Debora Marshall, to throw crew members and some passengers around causing   some to suffer bumps and bruises.  “Some dishes smashed in the galley and   the gift shop suffered some damage as well.”
The Northern Adventure turned around at 8:30 this morning and made it back to Prince Rupert. There will be no sailing tonight, Marshall says the cancelled sailing for  this evening is to allow crew to get some  rest  "They haven't  had any  sleep for  30 hours, so  they need to get some rest".  The forecast  calls  for  high seas again, with  waves of  4-6 metres (19.69 feet)  tonight,  building to 6-8 metres (26.25 feet ) in the morning.
The  next possible sailing is 6:00 tomorrow evening. Marshall says passengers who have had to stay in Prince Rupert should keep their receipts for hotel rooms or expenses as B.C. Ferries will reimburse them for “any reasonable expense.”

Wow, I'd be kissing the ground! Scary stuff!
I agree scary stuff!!! Why should MY tax dollar pay hotel bills? Not B.C. ferries fault.
ervboy - I would guess that you work for Air Canada.
Anyone who knows the area understands that when the weather is bad,you DO NOT attempt a crossing of Hecate Straight.
Probably one of the nastiest stretches of water on the coast and I can say that from personal experience.
B.C. Ferries knew there was a serious blow coming, but decided to take the chance and go for it.
Apparently they thought they would have enough time to make it across.
Not a very smart thing to do, considering that particular ferry has a reputation for handling like a 45 gallon drum!
B.C. Ferries got lucky!
Its nickname is "the vomit comet"!
camoose should YOUR tax dollar buy me a room in say...Mackenzie because the pine pass is closed for a couple days?
