Prince George, B.C.-Provincial New Democrat Leader Carole James is in Ottawa this morning, taking part in a special news conference with the Federal Leader of the New Democrats Jack Layton, and her Ontario Counterpart, Andrea Horwath.
The three New Democrat leaders are showing their opposition to the harmonized sales tax which will take effect July 1 2010.
While Parliament has given preliminary  approval  to  tax harmonization for B.C. and Ontario, a new Ipsos- Reid Survey indicates the vast majority  of British Columbians, (82%) and Ontarians (74%) oppose the plan to harmonize the provincial and federal sales tax. Most (90%) say it is nothing more than a tax grab that will be good for government but bad for consumers.
The vote in the House of Commons was 192 to 32, and  more than  70 MPs were  absent.
A motion  for  final approval will go before  the House  later this week.

Why on earth would they care about what the vast majority of Canadians want? We have no say once we put the fools in. They know it to and that is why we see such arrogance from the likes of Campbell’s government. Democracy at its finest! Governments are out of control and untouchable. When are Canadians going to wake up already?
The BC Gov't is getting $1.6B (that's Billion with a B) in transition funding from the feds. For this reason alone, the HST is going through, like it or not.
Tax me.... i'm Canadian
Any one who believes that the NDP would have done anything differently then what the BC Liberals are doing is seriously delusional.
The NDP & the Liberals have shown us for decades what they are all about. Vote for the next party and forget the fact that they have never been in power. Who really cares at this point? We are Screwed and Tattooed anyway. Not going to lose much more then has already been sold off. There are options and to say there is no one else to vote for and put these baboons back in power is a cop out! If nothing else it would send a HUGE MESSAGE to these crooks. Big corporations have their monies tied up in the NDP and the Liberals so let’s help them lose their money by voting unexpectedly. Government needs to be accountable and the people need to have a SAY! Big business needs to pay their fair share! They have gotten enough breaks! Example of this is the Carbon Tax, yet again the biggest polluters get breaks and the load is piled onto the ever shrinking tax payer group. Meanwhile the biggest atrocity sits in our back yard and is called the TAR SANDS. It is so obvious that our government people work for the corporations. It is as plain as the noses on our faces yet we continue along like fools. It is no wonder government gets away with what they do; they can count on us to let it happen. We are nothing but a disgrace to ourselves and our future generation. We are what my Grand daughter calls WIMPS.
If you like it, it is called the oil sands. If you don't like it , it is called the tar sands. I love the English language!
I don't believe in rolling over and letting them do what they want. Everyone in our province who opposes the implementation of the HST needs to write or email to their MLA and the Premier. If we are complacent, they will continue.
Sign the recall campaign after the Olympics. Make it real your opposition.

Great fantastic post Municca.
The federal government bought the B.C.government for the amount of 1.6 billion of our own tax dollars.
And after the feds send off the big cheque and the HST becomes law,we will then have no choice but to pay even more of our hard earned tax dollars.
Around and around it goes, until they think up another way to tax us for something else.
As Mr.PG says,"the HST is going through", and there is not a damn thing we can do about it.
Sad but true.
But that doesn't mean we can't raise hell about it and make these over-paid opportunists who waste our tax dollars as uncomfortable as possible!
At least we can perhaps have the satisfaction of shortening up some political careers!
Let's set this straight...

Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
all reduced their provincial tax to accomodate the tax harmonization. The HST is now working very well in those provinces and their economies will continue to be very competative. In addition because of the provincial tax cuts, the consumers are managing the HST quite well.

Even the NDP government of Nova Scotia has ENDORSED the HST and will NEVER recind it. (which incidentally blow holes in James and Laytons credibility).

Where is the BC provincial tax cut????

Maybe coming Mr. Campbell????.....

Roflmao! Please do not hold your breath on that one Gimmea.....:@
