$40 thousand dollars to see a touch, I can't even comment on this, its just wrong
I can't wait and I know I'm not alone!
The correct wording should have read: The city has recieved $40,000.00 from the tax payers.

WOW, We got something from the olympics. Should be about enough to fill a couple of pot holes. Let's not spend this money foolishly.
What a waste of tax payer's money! The whole Olympics is a waste of tax payers money! The money could be better spent on helping the unemployed, the homeless, improving health care & education...the list is endless. Such as a shame we have to put up with this and have no say.
Now we are spending a ton of money trying to get the winter games here as well. It never stops.
40,000? For a 2 hour event? How on earth is this money being spent?
I can't wait for the Olympics! At last, an opportunity to showcase our great province to the world.
My mother awlays said that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone or something..say nothing at all.
I will say nothing.
Ever consider that money spent on the Olympics is like stimulus spending.

Much of that money is going back into the economy, as construction workers are employed during the economic downturn, and thus not collecting unemployment.

Everything from wood and concrete to paint and lights are being purchased and those sales are keeping business doors open.

While the Olympics are running, there will be thousands of athletes, coaches, and trainers. Add to that tens of thousands of tourists, and you will have full hotels, restaurants, and be able to sell anything with a maple leaf on it.

When the Olympics are over, they plan to sell many of the condos from the Olympic village, that will put money back into our coffers.

Of all the thousands of visitors and athletes some might decide Canada is a good place to come back to, leading to more tourism.

Let’s not forget that Vancouver/Whistler will not have additional world class facilities, that can be used both by the residents, and train our athletes for years to come, it might even attract athletes to come to train.

Unfortunately our Olympics fell into one of the worst economic slumps, but with a positive outlook, you can see that this is not about two weeks. It is about employment for year before, and benefits that will be realized for years afterwards.

We are stuck with the games now, protest if you want, but try not to discourage all the potential tourists from coming back.
Thank you Vdesign! So many people seem to think that it was just one big cheque stroked for the olympics and if the Olympics were not happening than all of that money would be sitting there for other programs... which of course is simply not true.
$40 thousand bucks? Can anyone see the receipts for this?
Vdesign, that kind of thinking would require somewhat of an open mind. A rarity on this site.
I hope all you Olympic lovers have a lot of money to leave your grandchildren because it will take that long to pay this crap off.
it will never be paid off; just the cost of maintaining everything over the 10 years is going to break us. This isn't the end of the spending, more to come. I still don't under stand how anyone can support these games.
Yeah right Vdesign. Tell that to the folks in Montreal. They just finished paying their huge Olympic debt. Took 30 years to do it.

I wont argue with you mythoughts because it would be the same as any other internet argument and I know I have zero chance of changing your mind.
For anyone else I will say that 1.5 billion in 1976 is a world away from 1 billion in 2010. That was also pure debt - I dont see any new stadiums built for this Olympics? I wont even get into the accounting end where someone has made money off of this stadium for the last 30 years...
Several have posted something like this :"IT will never be paid off.."

Can one or more of those who have made such a post, talking about "IT", define exactly what "IT" includes?

for instance:

1. Canada line. Included or not?

2. Sea to Sky improvement?

3. New Convention Centre?

4. New Fairmont hotel on waterfront?

5. New Coast Hotel on waterfront?

6. Richmond Ice Oval?

7. Refurbished ice rink at Robson Square?

8. Olympic athletes village?

There are millions of people in this country living in proverty, many of them children. Most Canadians can't afford post secondary education because of the rising costs. We all know what's happened to our health care right across the country. The wait lists are very long & painful. ONLY when all of these have been fixed, would I support the billions of dollars being spent for the Olympics. People are dying and our governments are spending tax dollars so that the few who can afford it can watch a very small group of people skate, ski and play hockey. It's just not right.
Thank you Mythoughts! Well said!
"Vdesign" You are stuck in the southern part of British Columbia, we like to call your small part of the Province, "CAMPBELL'S FANTASY LAND"!!

Prince George will benifit SQUAT from the damn OWELYPICS. We got 40 thousand dollars from our own pocket as bribe money. For what, to try to convince us that our tax dollars are being well spent?? Are you serious, are you kidding me?? Are you hearing me Vdesign? I wish we could find out who some of you posters are.

If we could find that out, and we further find that you are involved in this scandal, I would hope that we could be instrumental in sending you all to PRISON for a very long time.

This is not DEMOCRACY. This is thievery at it's finest!!

and one more thing "Vdesign", all the jobs involved with the constuction to build the facilities (that you talk about), to host the 2010 Owelympics, DID NOT BENEFIT any communitiy in the Central Interior, or the Northern part of British Columbia. But I will tell you one thing, we are all very aware that we are going to pay for your two week party!!

What a pathetic lot you are!! Stand up and say, "WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH"

"GENERAL STRIKE" is in order, NOW!!
This is not DEMOCRACY. This is thievery at it's finest!!

I couldn't have written it better!

These people have no idea what it is like to struggle. Period! B.C.'s minimum wage at 8$ an hour. While the rest of the world believe's every house hold is making 21$ an hour. NOT! Taxes, Taxes, and more Taxes! All for the Elite! OWELYMPICS, GLOBAL CLIMATE TAXES, POOR ECONOMY has crushed my family.

MERRY FLIPPING CHRISTMAS
I am so sorry Hammy. So sorry.
"see you next Tuesday" Campbell!

If BC sucks so bad, why not move to somewhere better? Good luck with that.
It doesn't matter what part of Canada we live in, the same is true for all...taxes, taxes, taxes. It's how the taxpayers' money is spent that the majority of Canadians are upset about, especially the flipping Olympics when there are so many better ways to spend the money that would improve the quality of life for the majority and not just the few who participate in the Olympics.
MrPG, I was born in Prince George. Where were you born?? I ain't moving anywhere, just quit messing with my tax dollars.

This is my TOWN, and I, and most of my friends are sick and tired of the drugs, the crime, the bad roads, and the lousy City Council, not doing anything about anything in this hell hole!

But yet, they make the BIG HOOPLA about spending $40,000.00 for "THE TORCH" to come through this dump.

Your posts are soooo lame!! But you are entitled to your oppinion, such as they mostly are!!
"MrPG, I was born in Prince George. Where were you born?? I ain't moving anywhere, just quit messing with my tax dollars. "

Where I was born isn't relevant, but I have lived here for about 40 years. Thanks for your opinion about my posts, I'll pretend like I care about what you think.

Sounds like you're one that just likes to moan and complain. Not much of a way to live, but have fun!
For what its worth, I did very well with one of our clients up here while they had alot of thier resources tied up for construction on the sea to sky highway - so to say there where NO benefits up here is wrong.

also - reading between the lines over the last few weeks, I would say that samiam is taxinapothole
;-)
Ah yes, taxinapothole, the guy who always threatens to leave town, but never seems to pull it off.
Maybe I have, or maybe I haven't! What difference does it make? There are others on here that comment from elsewhere!

I took offence to the slamming "corruption" gave me. He has since been banished from this site. There was no need for his nasty comments, and I see you still want to fling the stuff in the fan interceptor and MrPG. Are you both one of the same? Are you the new and improved "corruption"?

What ever you are, your comments are shameful to say the least. Get a life!!

This site is for people to state their oppinions on various articles that Oppinion 250 has offered us. If you want to express your oppinion, I accept that. Let me express mine!

Agree to disagree!! You don't have to say nasty $#!+ about me, OK?

Merry Christmas
sorry, too many "p's" in OPINION. Damn spell check......lol
Hmm... samiam and taxinapothole mis-spell 'opinion' in the same way. BUSTED! lol...

How many ID's do you have?
