Prince George, BC- Mayor Dan Rogers and Council have officially launched their Strategic Plan.

“We have identified the vision that Prince George will be a vibrant, active, and diverse community which provides a strong focal point and identity for the north, with a thriving economy that offers full opportunities for housing, education, employment, recreation and the cultural life of residents,” said Mayor Dan Rogers.

Council has identified 10 core focus areas:

• Creating a Better Downtown

• Building Stronger Neighbourhoods

• Improving our Health and Safety

• Taking Care of our Air, Water, and Land Resources

• Strengthening and Diversifying our Economy

• Increasing Civic Pride

• Continuing Progressive and Responsible Fiscal Management

• Creating an Inclusive Community

• Strengthening Intergovernmental Relations

• Building a Strong and Committed City Team

Additionally, Council has also identified its  priority projects with progress targets to 2011. While these projects have been identified, the City will continue to place a strong emphasis and dedication to delivering day-to-day services to residents.

Civic Pride? As opposed to Gay Pride? i.e. Being proud of who we are? Maybe when hizzoner Dan can organize a civic pride parade every year. In July, after our municipal taxes are paid, we can all line up along the parade route and watch all the poorer taxpaying people march by wearing just an old barrel. Thanks, Dan.
Did they forget world peace?
Continuing Progressive and responsible fiscal management.

Are we to beleive that the fiscal management of the past 10 years was responsible and progressive, and that we are going to get more of the same????

I guess this means, $48 Million Police station, $50 Million Performing Arts Centre, $8 Million Boundry Road Cut Off.
$20 Million Co-Generation Plant, plus all the costs associated with tearing up the roads and buildings to implement this foolish idea. $15 Million more or less for the 2015 Olympics.

We must not forget all the tax increases that will have to be instituted to pay for these projects.

So this is Prince Georges Progressive and responsible fiscal management. Good God are we in for it.

“.... Prince George will be a vibrant, active, and diverse community which provides a strong focal point and identity for the north, with a thriving economy that offers full opportunities for housing, education, employment, recreation and the cultural life of residents,”

That is the direct opposite of

"Prince George will be a listless, inactive, and homogeneous community which provides a weak focal point and identity with a failing economy that offers few opportunties for housing, education, employment, recreation and the cultural life of residents."

Here is Nanaimo's vision.

Nanaimo will be a community that RESPECTS PEOPLE. (Somehow the people we placed at the helm missed that)

It will hold NEIGHBOURHOODS AS THE BUILDING BLOCKS of the city.

Nanaimo will be SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND ALL INCOME LEVELS.

It will be AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE TO LIVE with the historic downtown core forming the "heart" of the city.

Change in the city will be based on the FOUNDATION OF COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION.

Nanaimo will be a community that RESPECTS AND PRESERVES THE ENVIRONMENT and one that is pedestrian friendly.

It will be a city of SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY that has a diverse economy and a wide range of social, recreational, cultural and artistic amenities and services.
