Victoria, B.C.- The first snow pack report for the year indicates there will need to be an above normal snowfall for the balance of the season in some areas, (Thompson, Okanagan, Nicola, Similkameen, Kettle, and others)if those areas are to replenish the diminished groundwater, lake and reservoir storage.
At this point, the Upper Fraser basin is 123% of normal snowpack and the Nechako basin is 98% of normal meaning there is, at this point, a low risk of flooding.
By this date, generally about one-half of the BC snowpack has accumulated. This first snow survey bulletin for the year is based on limited data, and more data will be available in subsequent surveys.
