Prince George, B.C.-  Highway 16  is closed  just west of Bednesti at the BobTail Forest Service Road because of  poor road conditions.

Police say the roadway is very slick and  there have been numerous crashes as drivers can't keep the vehicles on the road.  While no one has been hurt,   the road is closed until crews can  sand the stretch of highway  to allow for  safe travel.

At last count, RCMP say they  had  5 crashes to deal with in that  area.

A travel advisory is in effect due to Freezing Rain from Vanderhoof to Prince George (100 km). Travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary.

Comments

Like I said before, put a gate across at Beaverley and close the highway down.
Funny, if the highway was closed just east of Bednesti there'd already be a ton of comments on just how horrible of a job YRB does around PG.

Some things are just too predicatable.
rambleon,

That is because YRB does do a horrible job. If that changes, the comments will change.

Freezing rain is tough to deal with though.
this is the 4th major set of accidents in less than a week. How many were killed on that stretch last year? 10 or 11? There needs to be a road condition investigation immediately. This is unreal. With rain in the forecast next week, this hi way needs extreme maintenance and monitoring.
I drove in from the Fort yesterday. Bad road conditions and a clear lack of maintenance started in the Prince George YRB area. Doesn't anybody monitor to see if they are doing their job?
