Actually this could be the biggest boon for Haiti in the last century.
Haiti is and always has been a very poor economy. They have struggled since the slave revolts that created the country.
Now with this catastrophe having leveled almost the entire country and many countries pitching in with aid, they might have a bunch of hospitals, airports and other infrastructure built for them by the altruistic efforts of all those other countries.
Perhaps there is hope for a better humanity.

Pretty sad when such a human tragedy is portrayed like this in a cartoon.

As much it is the truth, the timing of this comic is a wrong choice.

I dont think the cartoon was meant to be funny. It depicts a Country who under normal circumstances was always looking for food, and now with the earthquake their food bowl has been cracked, which makes matters worse.
This Country has always been is desperate need of food and other help, and now more so than ever.

Not cool.

People often misunderstand political cartoons. They make points and present views pictorially rather than in words, and are not always meant to be funny, as this one is not. It simply means Haiti is a broken country needing help. It is poignant.

"Actually, this could be the biggest boon
for Haiti in the last century"........
With all due respect, I get your point, but they have reported that there are 50,000 people confirmed dead
kind of early I think, to count blessings on a national scale. There is one hell of a lot of misery in Haiti right now.
I see the 'cartoon' as a statement of current conditions in Haiti, not as humour.
My opinion.

I did intend my comment in the most respectful way. I did not intend to slight the exceptional losses that they have suffered. Only that now they will be receiving aid from every corner of the earth.
Ammonra said how I perceived the illustration.

check your history at the end of the second world war Germany and Japan ,the 2 countries most devasted, with the rebiulding monies given to them by the allies became and still are the leading countries in exporting goods. We hope that the same can be true in Haiti. It will depend on what type of aid they recieve and what type of local government is in place to best utilize that aid. To give a man a fish [aid] means that you will probably have to keep helping them out but teach them how to fish [use that aid] and we won't have to help them anymore.

Still, it is not the time for this kinda cartoon.
