Prince George, B.C.- A Prince George cab driver has been sentenced to three years in jail for aggravated assault and one year for assault with a weapon ( his cab) in connection with a near fatal altercation with a man in downtown Prince George.
In May of 2008, the cab driver was  near 3rd and George Streets, yelling at his son. A bystander got involved and that’s when the cabbie, 47  year old John Gordon Goudreau, drove the taxi towards the bystander, and struck him with the vehicle.
Goudreau then drove away from the scene, only to return moments later. The man who had been hit by the cab approached the vehicle at which time Goudreau stabbed him in the neck, severing his carotid artery.
Had it not been for the quick action of a male RN at the needle exchange in that area, the stabbing victim surely would have died.
In his reasons for judgement, Supreme Court Judge Glen Parrett asked that Crown explore the possibility of seeking an award for Registered Nurse Kurtis Lawton, for had it not been for his actions the victim would have died, and the accused would likely be facing a murder charge.

Way to go Kurtis!
Sounds like a plea bargain from attempted murder to aggravated assault. Crown gets so wishy washy these days. Good work on the part of the male nurse and glad to hear the victim survived.
There's a bit of man-bites-dog quality to this. We usually hear about a cab driver being attacked by a passenger.
Imorge you're right. Another example of the Crown making deals behind closed doors that don't see the light of an open and accountable court room. IMO that is not how justice should be served and contributes to our problems of crime and a lack of respect for the law.
Deals make me mad too. Anyone remember the Karla Holmolka deal back in the 90's?

This one should have been attempted murder plus aggravated assault and so on.
