Oh great I get to be first today. Happy Friday everyone!
Now let's see if we can say something nice about Prince George.I'll start.

Did anyone happen to go to the Ukrainian New years at the Hart? It was an outstannding evening with great food, terrific entertainment and fantastic people. Just anothet wonderful part of PG.
Cultural diversity is what Canada is all about! The Wops are ok, the Ukes are fine, the Kikes can stay, the Wetbacks are welcome - it is those damn Scotsmen who gotta go!!!
The Cougars sign a 10 year lease. 2 questions. What is the out clause and how much did the city drop their pants to get this done?

I have heard through the grape vine that the last contract did not supply enough cash to cover the operating costs of the arena. How much worse is this one?
This winter has been so cold in PG, it is unbelievable!!! Person can't even walk around without getting their toes frozen off after 5 minutes.

No global warming around here, that's for sure, eh?
With all the complaining about the Olympics being for the elitist or rich,I have been confused as to when someone is considered rich or elitist??? I know a few people going to the games yet I have a real difficult time thinking they are rich...Can someone please define for me.
If they are doing something you secretely want to do but cannot afford to then they are "rich and elitist"

Happy Friday everyone

why does god always step in an claim all the credit for saving someone from under rubble after some hard working people have actually freed the trapped individual?
The "elitist" and "rich" were the ones who actually received a monetary gain from the Olympics construction BEFORE prices (of everything) went up. In actuality, they probably just maintained their previous position. The rest of us all went backwards.
why does god always step in an claim all the credit for saving someone from under rubble after some hard working people have actually freed the trapped individual?
Haven't you heard, greatmysticbush ape,
"God works in mysterious ways."
I don't recall seeing God's last press conference where he was claiming this?

How does everyone feel about the story of 24 Mayors of Canadian towns offering to rebuild Haiti on our dime? How does everyone feel about the raising of the carbon tax and the implementation of the HST? How does everyone feel about our council giving themselves a raise?

You just have to go to the 2010 Olympic site and look up the cost of tickets and you will get your answer to only the riche can afford the Olympics. Oh and then there is the inflated cost of accommodations as well.

Did anyone else see on Global news last night that some poor guy who sells heat packs who has a flame logo on the package is being charged $5000.00 from the IOC? The logo does not even look like the Olympic one. Just like the poor Pizza guy who had rings on his adds who by the way was in business with the same logo for 34 years.

Just some things that have been on my mind lately that are just plain bothersome. :}

HAPPY FRIDAY ALL!
"This winter has been so cold in PG, it is unbelievable!!! Person can't even walk around without getting their toes frozen off after 5 minutes.

PG is just one tiny speck on the globe. Besides, "global warming" is a media concoction; the more relevant term is "climate change".
I watched Global last night (which I try not to do, given how biased they are to the Olympics)and I saw the blurb on the heat pack guy.
Sickening is about the only way I can describe it.
He was here first!
And nothing short of extortion by Vanoc.(aka...B.C.Government)
The business owner needs to fight this and people need to support him.
He will win this one, assuming Vanoc actually has the balls to take him to court!
"Ozone from Asia is wafting across the Pacific on springtime winds and boosting the amount of the smog-producing chemical found in the skies above the Western United States, researchers said in a study released Wednesday.

The study, published in the journal Nature, probes a phenomenon that has puzzled scientists in the last decade: Ground-level ozone has dropped in cities thanks to tighter pollution controls, but it has risen in rural areas in the Western U.S., where there is little industry or automobile traffic."

I have been suspecting for a long time that the winds coming from Asia across the Pacific carry enough ozone with them to make our efforts at reducing smog much more difficult as the Asian countries are becoming more industrialized every year.

It's like trying to clean your laundry with dirty water.

IMO, you have answered my question about being rich, and also answered any questions I have had on the complainers credibilty. Anyone who was able to save up 20K over the past four years for a 10-14 day holiday is considered rich in your opinion. From that logic anyone who owns a 20K vehicle financed over 4 years should also be considered rich and elitist?
Has anyone else received series of telephone calls from Telus.

I am no longer a telus customer, have not been for over a year.. in this last week a telus representative has called my cell phone number 6 times in one week trying to offer me a deal to switch back to Telus.. I spoke with a supervisor twice and the privacy representative from Telus once. I informed Telus each time that i did not want their service and to not call my number again. This has been ignored. I also informed Telus that even if i ever considered returning a customer the fact they called me this many times in less than one week there is no way i would ever return as a customer..

i am wondering is any one else experience this time of calls.. - i hopefully have them now blocked from calling my number.

opps meant type of calls not time of calls.. i am just so shocked that Telus would have a policy to call someone repeatly every night .. and on one day 2 twice.. after the first time i told them i did not want their service.
It's time for another Census! With all these school closures, I think we all really need to know where have all the people gone? I want to know just EXACTLY how many people are left in Prince George and B.C. to cover all these expenditures and taxes.

"Has anyone else received series of telephone calls from Telus. "

I am a Telus customer and get a lot of calls and mail from Shaw to switch to their phone service. Competition at its finest, my phone bill has gone down significantly in the last year because I've told Telus that their competitor is cheaper, and they've reduced my phone bill to match.
Just a little update on why BC is hosting the 2010 Olympics as there are always individuals blaming everything on the games. Vancouver won the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics July 2, 2003. Earlier in February Vancouver residents voted in a referendum accepting the responsibility of the host city should it win its bid. 64% voted in favour. 3 cities made the short list, First bid Feb 4, 2002. Second bid May 31, 2002. Short list August 28, 2003. Final decision July 2, 2003 Winner Vancouver 56 votes and Pipongchang 53 votes. As anyone can see this started long before 2002 to start the application. Have a good weekend everyone.
new,

I remember the whole process, you are right. Point to ponder, since Vancouver is the ones who voted for it, why is BC the ones to pay for it. Maybe we should have a referendum about a new Police Station, Arts Center and what the hell lets throw in a new arena or two and when we can't pay for it, send the bill to Victoria.

Wondering why there has been NO dialouge on this site about the big shake up by BC housing last week. all top people gone for low income housing. (Browning & crew gone) thought Ben would be all over this one.
Agree why are we paying for Vancouvers olympics?

Gus ever hear of El Nino. That is why we having a warmer winter. Also tha PDO, pacific Decadel Ocillation has been in a warm cycle contributing to our past milder winters but is now entering a cooling cycle so the cold winters will return to the west.

The catch word went from global warming to climate change because the climate stopped warming 15 years ago and has been cooling for the last number of years. The warmers did not see that coming with thier -computer progarams-.

check out this website, some interesting reading there today wattsupwiththat.com
Maybe one of the proposed shutdown schools could be used for the performing arts centre. Whats that you say city hall, not fancy enough and the Norgate Site has already been bought. City Hall and the artsy crowd, they are tight.
We do live in a most interesting time. Haiti imports everything. Their only export is people. Time to include them in NAFTA? With all the "alleged" conspiracy theories on the "net", e.g. New World Order, 9-11 questions, and the like, even if they are just theories, is the satisfaction of having politicians constantly looking over their shoulders good enough? I'd like to start a revolution, but I have to go to work Monday.I have four trees in my yard. Maybe Craigslist has some people who will buy my carbon "sinkhole" in my yard for a fee. I can assuage yer carbon footprint guilt. Again for a little cash infusion. No Bre-X here. Trust me. Lotsa topics and nuthin' to say.
Has anyone checked their gas bill from terrasan lately? I got mine today and was shocked to see the amount. $105.99 for gas, $135.00 for all the extra charges and taxes.
Has anyone noticed that the new homeless shelter at 17th and Queensway always has windows open. I counted 15 windows open when the temperature was -18, and 12 windows open when the temperature was -30.

Seems the building is too hot, and they cant seem to get the temperature down. This building is heated by a underground thermal heating system, at a huge cost.

At the present fan average of 2054 fans per game, the City stands to lose approx $60,000.00 per year on the new 10 year contract. The fact that the contract was retroactive to 2008 suggests that it has already cost them approx $120,000.00. This building at present costs tax payers $300,000.00 per year to operate, so that will rise to $360,000.00 plus.

The contract has an opting out clause that would allow the franchise to leave at the end of any given year, as long as they gave notice before the years end.

One (1) for Brodsky Zero (0) for City.
Just read on a website that only 20 out of 192 countries signed up for the Copenhagen Climate Accord. Does that speak volumes or what? Where's Al?
The tenants are not allowed to smoke inside.
So what does someone getting a free bed do, why he opens the window before lighting up.
greatmysticbushape
You will have to try harder to stir this pot. A little subtlety with a dose of conspiracy should do the trick.
Perhaps a grammatical error or misspelling would get the attention you crave.
Ah nice to see the positive spin on the Cougars lease. For those of you who like hockey, you already know that this is the worst run organization in all of sports, not just hockey. They have proven over and over that they are inept to run a WHL franchise.

For those of you who don't like hockey, but care about this city, then give me a few seconds of your time as I put forward a few questions to you. As the Cougars are the anchor tenant for CN Centre and primarily the reason CN Centre was built, what has been their economic impact been on the city of PG? Bear in mind that when I say economic impact, that local dollars don't count, and for good reason. One, you must be talking about external dollars brought into PG, spent here, kept here, and having an impact on the average everyday citizen of PG. Also, the dollars that are spent on the Cougars by PG folks, could have been spent elsewhere in this city. What is the opportunity cost for other businesses in this city? That is, what other opportunities could PG folks have spent their money on that would have had a better return for PG?

Secondly, if folk from out of town come to PG, do they come to exclusively see the Cougars or do they decide to go after a long day of shopping? I highly doubt anyone is traveling here to see a last place team unless of course they know a player.

Lastly, how many Cougar jobs have been filled by actual people from PG?

Andy, the Cougars may be a good tenant for you in paying your bills, but one is left to speculate the opportunity lost by signing a deal with these charlatans.
Brodsky for mayor. He is one hell of a good negotiator.
Loki - olle! its just an interesting phenomenum. as long as you arn't hurting anyone i guess one idea/belief is as good as another.

Why is it that most people in this town have no problem with passing you on a two lane and then almost immediately cutting back in front of you (spraying gravel and rocks all over your vehicle in the process), when there is LOADS of empty road ahead of them and they could just pull in a little bit further down the road and not pepper your vehicle? Am I the only one who tries to be courteous with this kind of stuff?
Because they are idiots!
Too few students, schools close.

Too few fans, give em anotehr 10 years with no escape clause.

Which successful team would want to come here? And, if they were successful now, would this city inspire them to continue to be successful?
Hey, there's a math question:

Someone counted 15 windows open when the temperature was -18, and 12 windows open when the temperature was -30.

What temperature was it when 17 windows were open?
When is the monster truck show coming back to CN Center in Prince George? I want a monster truck show! MONSTER TRUCK! MONSTER TRUCK! MONSTER TRUCK! VROOOOOM VROOOOM!! VROOOOOM! VROOOOOOM!

Pretty please?
It seems that there is more people driving around talking on cell phones than ever before, and mostly young ladies, except for one guy, but he was all over the road. At least the girls could keep it between the lines.... maybe he was dodgeing pot holes. Hmmm, maybe the ticket money could go towards pot holes, we would have them fixed in no time.... what if you were calling to report a pot hole!!
Gus. There were 15 Windows open to-day. Temperature was probably +4. We will eventually get to 17.

Some information I was able to get is that the building is to hot, and they cant seem to get the temperature down.

LOL @ gus

Gus, there appears to be a 4 degree variance per window so it would be logical to conclude that at -10 you would find 17 windows open!

Maybe the heating issues at the shelter on Queensway is why we are having this beautiful warm weather!?
It appears to me that the number of windows open may may not be related to the termperature outside, or only partially so.

Maybe the amount which each window was open is a better indicator of any relationship with the outside temperature.
Time to get some breakfast.

Another sunny day, relatively warm day in Prince George.
OOps. Not as warm as I thought now that I've been outside. Nice winter day though.
