Prince George, B.C.- There will be a special open house next Wednesday for residents of Red Rock and Stoner to learn more about the bio-solids slated to be spread out on a property on Patterson Road.
The bio-solids are from the sewage lagoons in Prince George. Area residents were not advised of the plan to spread the bio-solids on a neighbouring property and have raised concerns about it. "I think it was a case that we just got ahead of ourselves" says City Operations General Manager Bob Radloff. He says the City routinely applies for such projects and typically the Ministry of Environment gives them the permits to do so.
The property in question is privately owned and the spreading of bio-solids is an accepted use under the current zoning.
Radloff says when people express concerns, "We owe them the decency to go there and tell them what this is all about."
SYLVIS Environmental has been working with the City of Prince George, and will make a presentation at the open house which will be held at 7:00p.m. at the Red Rock/Stoner Volunteer Fire hall at the Junction of Highway 97 and Red Rock Road East .
The project has yet to be given final approval by the Ministry of the Environment. A representative from the Ministry of Environment is expected to attend the meeting.
