January 2005 kicked off with UNBC welcoming the first 25 students in the Northern Medical Program, an expansion of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, to educate physicians in northern B.C..

Premier Gordon Campbell visited the students during the first week of classes and used state-of-the-art technology to link medical students across the country.

In February, the Premier announced $31.8-million dollars to build a new Teaching and Learning Centre at the Prince George campus.  Construction is now well underway, having started in the summer.

In April, the university's Board of Governors approved a two-percent hike in tuition fees -- bringing the typical tuition for a full-time undergrad student to just over $4100.00 per year.  In the same month, the Liberal government announced $20.5-million dollars towards construction of the Northern Sports Centre.  The sports centre is a partnership between UNBC and the City of Prince George.

This past summer, UNBC President, Dr. Charles Jago, was named a Member of the Order of Canada.  Dr. Jago is set to retire in the summer of 2006.  His replacement, Dr. Don Cozzetto, was named in December.  Cozzetto is a native of B.C., but has spent the past 18-years at universities in the United States.

Good thing Jago is going to retire from the University.
He has to tackle that job of cleaning up the air pollution in this city, and the solution has escaped many great minds to date for decades.
Well, maybe not many great minds--after all--this is Prince George!!
Happy New Year.
Oh wow...another sports facility....
