14 year old Alix Wells pauses for photos as she brings the Olympic flame towards the stage at Exhibition Park
Prince George, B .C.- About 6,000 people turned out to Exhibition Park this evening to welcome the arrival of the Olympic flame and to see student Alex Wells light the Olympic Cauldron.
The entertainment started with the Lheidli T’enneh drummers (photo at right). Next on stage was a group of Coca Cola sponsored drummers ( like Blue Man Group without the painted faces) pounded out a rhythm as gymnasts moved around the stage on high strung ropes, and flipped hoola hoops with the precision of any act from Cirque de Soleil. Sponsor RBC brought “Fritz” the painter on stage who splashed together a painting of the torch bearer as his canvas rotated to the sound of hip hop music.

The M.C. rocked the crowd into cheering battles, left side versus right side, to see who could make the most noise, “Make it loud enough to be heard in Kamloops” he said, and the crowd did its best.
People in the crowd carried pennants, Coca Cola bottle shaped glow lights and tambourines with the RBC logo. It was a party atmosphere, meant to hit its peak when Alix Wells carried the torch through the crowd, and up the stairs to light an Olympic cauldron.
And hit its peak it did.
The Kelly Road High School student,(and Alpine skier) took the final steps through a cheering crowd, stopping half way so every cell-phone and camera in the place could snap a picture.
Then up on the stage, where the flame from her torch, touched off the fuel in the cauldron.

To cap it off, before the politicians made their speeches, the crowd was asked to sing Oh Canada, and with glowing hearts, they did.
An Olympic moment for Prince George, with the night closing with a fireworks display.
