"Dippers" wait their turn as two hit the cold water of Ness Lake in the annual Polar Bear Dip
The Annual Polar Bear Dip at the Ness Lake Bible Camp was a huge success. A larger number of "dippers" than usual showed up to brave the cold water of Ness Lake in the name of charity on New Year's Day.
Camp Director Paul Bailey says the great turn out was likely because of the mild weather. "Last year, the temperture was -26, this year its considerably warmer." says Bailey , who showed up in serious painted mode to welcome the new year.
Thos who take a dip in the Lake , have to pay a registration fee, and some collect pledges. "In all, the event usually raises about $3,000 for the Ness Lake Bible Camp" says Bailey "But it looks like this may be a better than normal year"
-Camp Director Paul Bailey painted his face red, and labelled his chest with 2006 before hitting the water. He has been doing Polar Bear dips for 13 years, 8 on the Island, and this is his 5th year doing the "dip" at Ness Lake.
