Prince George- Yet another major Grow-op has been busted. Police executed a warrant on a home on Pilot Mtn. Road Tuesday and seized approximately 1750 marihuana plants, and a large amount of grow op materials.

No one was at home at the time of the bust, and no arrests were made but the investigation is ongoing.

BC Hydro was able to disconnect an elaborate by-pass,  which was in effect,  allowing growers to steal hydro.

Police want to thank the public for their efforts in bringing about the bust.

Why don't the cops bust these joints when the s4it heads are home. A little survailance should establish that. They are probably transient, so they are long gone. All in all, good work guys, keep it up.
Generally they do try to wait till at least one person is in the house.
Steal power from Hydro = 100% guarantee you will get caught. Hydro will turn a blind eye to high power consumption, but stealing power is recognized right away simply by tracing the power loss. They will thank the public, because they don't need the problems.
I hope Hydro cut the Drop, this way the House will freeze up, if you don't like it ,pay for your Hydro I do have to pay for it.

Power flucuates up and down in the lines all the time.

How can Hydro trace a small amount of power that bypasses a meter????

How could they track it to a specific point??

I dont beleive they can.
Its easy, one guy reads the meter, while the other guy runs a meter on the line from the pole. If both readings are the same move on to the next house. They do it all the time especially if the house is suspicious and they have reason to verify the validity of a meter reading (off historical usage, public tips, line leakage in the neighborhood ect). It takes all but 5 minutes to do if they have reason to check for 100% certainty... Hydro has many ways of noticing leakage. Smart grow op dudes haven't thought it out past first base most of the time when they bi-pass a meter. Its so common they should almost make a comedy out of it.
Quite a large amount of grow ops in this northern town on a per capita basis.
you have no idea. Estimated to be in the many billions, just in BC.
Billions of grow ops in BC? Hmm.
Further to what Eagle said, Hydro also monitors power consumption between points along certain corridors. They actually have a type of meter permanently connected to the lines in those areas that records power use. They know where all the legitimate services are, and have a pretty good idea how much power will be used based on historical data. It is not all that precise, but when usage spikes occur, they are able to gradually track them down to an area.
metalman.
Will the city of PG receive the proceeds when these properties are sold?

Does the city have a policy in place so homebuyers are protected? Who can you call to find out if a house was a former grow-op?
metal man:
But tens of thousands of illegal "grow-ops" remain in Canada. Estimates suggest marijuana may generate up to C$7bn (£3.5bn; US$6.1bn) a year in BC, the sunny province thought to be at the heart of the industry.
