WHOA.....Something's Missing!

It is as much  a part of Prince George as the Fraser and Nechako rivers.

It has a new fresh  face, but you can't help but notice that something is missing.

Nowhere on this new facade does it say "The Northern"

"Not to worry " says Blair Moffatt, "There is still some work to be done on the new look to the building and part of that will be to have the words The Northern on the Brunswick Street side of the building."

The renovations are expected to be completed early in the new year.

Nice job! Got to keep the "Northern" for sure.
This is nothing more than a 3 dressed up as a 9. That building should have been condemned years ago.
Most of those buildings on Third and George were there in the 40's or earlier. They are all firetraps, however they are all Grandfathered and a number of them have asbsentee landlords, this is another reason that it is hard to see any change in the Downttown.
Hey! That's my favorite store downtown. Sure beats WalMart. You can even phone up and say "Hey, I need a new washer/drier". They deliver and take the old ones away. It is the best service downtown. We need more "Northern's", not more demolition.
>We need more "Northern's", not more demolition.<

I must agree! There is no store in town where I have received better overall service than at The Northern! Let's hope that it will never turn into just another Home Hardware!
Im not knocking the Northern, or the Service, just the fact that the building is a fire trap, along with a bunch more on Third and George. Is highly unlikely they will ever build new in that area, however who knows??
It doesn't matter what colour you paint it or what you call it. It's still the Northern Hardware.

People from all over North America come to visit The Northern Hardware as a tourist highlight in Prince George. It is a one of a kind.

It has been my store of choice since the early 50's. Same great staff, same great service, same incredible stock of those hard to find items that nobody else carries.

Let's preserve this one as long as possible.

I do share the fire safety concerns as it wouldn't stand a chance if a fire started in the basement.

And maybe, that would be an appropriate time to rebuild if it ever happened. It would be a huge loss though. Chester
Water sprinklers can eliminate the fire trap threat. Do they have 'em? How old were the two buildings that Northern Linen demolished? How old is King George V school. Lets keep the Northern as long as we can. Hell, my house is 85.

I like the responses and am happy there are others who feel like I do. KGV was my first school in l933. The School Board has made a mess of the site. I would like to see the original school as an historical site, certainly not with all tgh phoney stucco it has on it now and hurray for the Northern. Thanks chaps and chapess'es.
