Public Consultation on Possible School Closures Starts Tonight

Prince George, B.C.- This evening, the public consultation begins for the School District 57 schools which are on the list for closure or reconfiguration.
The Board of Education is considering the changes because of financial difficulties which have left the District with having to cut $7 million dollars from its budget.
This evening, the first session will take place at Shady Valley Elementary.
Students from that school would be bussed to Glenview Elementary in the Hart.
The consultation meeting is set to start at 7:00p.m.
Here is the schedule for consultation meetings for the remaining 13 schools under consideration for closure:
- February 9 Hixon Elementary
- February 17 Salmon Valley Elementary
- February 18 Dunster Elementary
- February 22 Nukko Lake Elementary
- February 24 Lakewood Jr. Secondary
- February 25 Peden Hill Elementary
- March 01 John McInnis Jr. Secondary
- March 02 Central Fort George Traditional Elementary
- March 03 Springwood Elementary
- March 04 Mackenzie Elementary
- March 15 Heather Park Middle School
- March 16 Austin Road Elementary
- March 18 Giscome Elementary (meeting location TBA)
All meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m. and a sign-up sheet for speakers will be available at
each meeting.
Those who are not able to attend a meeting, are invited to make a written submission which can be sent to the School District 57 Board of Education by mail:

The final decisions on closures will be made at a public board meeting on Tuesday, March 30, at Vanier Hall.
