This is so horrible! and on top of what happened last week on Ospika....What's wrong with people??? I'm glad the 2 women and the biker are ok. I'm getting scared to walk anywhere....
People have to be made to realize that driving is a privalage not a right. Some cases not only the drivers lisence should be revoked but the vechile impounded and sold to cover costs that they caused.
But who is the dummy riding a bike in winter on city streets?
Lets not get to crazy laying blame before the facts are heard.

As Imorge said, who is riding a bike in the winter, and what precautions were they taking? Were they farther out into the road than usual, were they visable, was it dark?

Spruceland parking lot, there are allot of pedestrians who take their lives into their own hands there, I would like to hear what happened before I convicted somebody, as per the story they did stop and talk to the "victims", what else happened?
Living across the street from where the bicycle accident took place, I saw the aftermath it was not very bright out at the time. Knowing most of the people riding bikes at this time of year, they were likely not wearing any sort of visibility clothing, and my guess would be they were riding down the wrong side of the street. For the injuries to have been minor, the car likely wasn't going all that fast (which is surprising since people treat that stretch of Ahbau like a raceway).

Having not witnessed the accident myself, I can't be sure. It's possible both parties were at fault.

As for a pedestrian being hit in the the Spruceland parking lot, again that doesn't surprise me. People drive too fast down there, and pedestrians often walk out from behind parked cars into the roadway without looking first. I've nearly hit people who just step out from behind vehicles and expect my x-ray vision to have seen them coming. Use commonsense and check before you step out. I'll brake and wait for people who look and don't just step out and assume that I can stop.
A driver should always be able to stop if someone jumps out in front of them in a parking lot. It's not hard to brake when you're doing 10km. As a driver it's my job to anticipate that any parked car could be hiding a child or pet.
Of course, and I do (haven't hit anyone yet) but pedestrians need to be responsible for their own safety too. Common sense - look before you step out. Make eye contact with the driver. Don't assume the driver will see you or is paying attention.

It's a dangerous assumption to assume that another driver is paying attention to what is going on, everyone needs to take responsibility for their own safety.
lmorge I cycle year around as well. Am I a dummy too cop. You are always on here flapping your gums like a fool. Get a life is what I say.
