New Twist in Senner Case
Thursday, June 09, 2005 04:07 AM
While Teresa Senner waits for word on how much time ( if any) she will have to do for killing Vanderhoof school principal Norman Wicks, there is another legal issue brewing.
The mother of two is not a Canadian citizen. Her family came to Canada from Florence Oregon in the early 60's. Although they lived here for many years, they were considered "permanent residents". Teresa was just two when the family landed in Canada, and according to her lawyer, has never thought of herself as anything but Canadian, however, 9-11 changed the way Immigration handles things.
Ms Senner can expect that once a sentence has been imposed, Canada's Immigration department will issue a "removal order", in an effort to have her deported because she has been convicted of a serious crime. The length of sentence plays an important factor on Senner's future. If Senner is given two years or more, she will lose her right to appeal that order.
Originally charged with second degree murder, the jury found her guilty of manslaughter. Her sentence will be handed down on August 29th.
