Prince George, B.C. - From the Olympic decade...to the Northern decade...
That's the angle being taken by stakeholders in Vancouver this week to promote Prince George and the region.
A "Prince George and a Northern Decade for British Columbia" reception in downtown Vancouver attracted more than 120 business leaders from a variety of sectors, elected ministers, BC MLAs, and included a brief visit by Premier Gordon Campbell. The event was hosted by Initiatives Prince George and co-sponsored by the Prince George Airport Authority, UNBC, the Council of Forest Industries, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, and the Northern Bioenergy Partnership.
IPG President and CEO, Tim McEwan, says "The word we heard is that we had the highest turnout of anybody that's been at BC showcase, which was the main venue at Robson Square for receptions."
McEwan says, "Prince George should know that based on discussions in the room, optimism about the economic development opportunites in our city and region are extremely well-placed."
"We've had some very productive business meetings here in Vancouver," he says. "There's a lot of follow up that we'll be doing from the contacts we made."
McEwan says the entire week has been "a low-cost, high-impact way to continue to get our message out."
