No trip south of the border is easy for any WHL club and the Prince George Cougars have found that out in the first two games of their three game weekend trip.  The Cougars were shut-out by the Everett Silvertips Saturday, a Silvertips team that is just two points back of the Tri-City Americans for first in the Western Conference.

The Cougars were coming off a 5-1 loss to the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night, another team in contention for that top spot in the US division and Western Conference.  On Saturday, the Cougars were looking to take both games in Everett with the Silvertips this season, after defeating the Tips 3-2 in a shoot-out on December 8 at Comcast Arena.  The Silvertips got off to a very fast start, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from Kellan Tochkin just 37 seconds into the contest.  Tochkin put home his 24th goal of the year with that tally, the only one to elude Cougars starting goalie Hudson Stremmel in the first period.  The Cougars out-shot the Silvertips 9-7 in the period.

The Silvertips would increase their lead in the second frame with three goals, starting with Shane Harper getting his 38th goal of the campaign at 3:51.  Daniel Iwanski made it 3-0 Everett at 15:56 with his seventh goal of the season and Byron Froese notched his 27th at 18:04 to put the hosts up 4-0 before the end of the period.  The shots were 11-8 in favour of the Silvertips.

Tochkin scored his second of the night and 25th of the season at 8:19 of the third period on a power play goal for a 5-0 lead, which Kent Simpson rode home for his first shut-out of the season, blocking 24 Cougars shots, including seven more in the third.  Stremmel dealt with 11 shots in the final period and 29 in the game.  The Cougars once again got blanked on the power play, going 0-for-3, making it 0-for-19 in the last four games.  The Silvertips scored one power play goal on five chances.

The Cougars, now at 11-50-1-2 on the season, will finish the trip with another big test, taking on the Portland Winterhawks Sunday night.  The Winterhawks are six behind the Silvertips, with both teams having seven games to play.

The Cougars will come home to meet the Silvertips again, Friday and Saturday at CN Centre.  Both games start at 7:00.  Next Friday's game is Tour Your Own Town Night, where various local and regional attractions will host interactive booths on the concourse throughout the evening.  Tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 250-564-5585.

Let's only hope management changes will happen at season's end. You can only feel for the kids after so many losses. It must be disheartening. The only light at the end of the tunnel is the season is drawing to a close.
After so many losses it can only have a detrimental on the fan base for next year.
Who knows, maybe the cost of season tickets will increase for the 2010/2011 season to cover the loss of revenue from the ever decreasing fan base.
Dallas Thompson and the Brodsky's are now only one game away from the magic number of 50 losses.

They must be so proud of their accomplishments.

Unless they sell the team, or at the very least, change the management they will continue to decline, and next year 1672 fans will represent a huge turnout.

Poor kids.
the players suck and the management sucks. That's all there is too it.
