Michelle Cyr Whiting Knows A Story When She Sees It.
By Ben Meisner
I would like to take an brief moment to thank Michelle Cyr Whiting for her dedication in keeping 0pinion 250 number one in the market while my wife and I took a break from the everyday duties that require your dedication 24-7. She is not only what I consider a seasoned reporter, she is a good one.
Trying to keep ahead of the news in this city and region is a daunting task and you can see she handled the chore well.
Now during our get away , Michelle dropped me a note to say folks complained she had written a nothing story on a slow day. The story was the matter of Homesteader Meats closing its doors and the fact that a few people were held holding gift certificates. She thought it was a good story and by the way, so did Elaine and I.
As for those detractors who were leaning on her for the story, I should point out that the Homesteader story was the most read story during the time we were away including the shooting in the city. Ben at Homesteaders is well known in this city, he had a lot of customers and he knows a lot of people, and so while he sold the business a couple of years ago , people still wanted to know what happened to a venture that he started.
I told Michelle, very often other people from the media like to take a shot at 0-250 when they miss the story and yet others think they know what a story is. Well the truth of the matter in both cases is that they don’t plain and simple. I’ll stick with the gut of reporters like Michelle and Elaine MacDonald long before I ever consider what other people deem to be a story. Good work in a tough environment Michelle, you have again proven yourself.
