Twenty four new students join the Northern Medical Program today after wrapping up a weekend of orientation activities at UNBC. The students have completed their first semester of courses at UBC in Vancouver and now have the opportunity to complete their medical education in northern BC.
The first group of Northern Medical Program students began their coursework at UNBC last January. They are continuing to take courses at the University this semester in advance of the third and fourth years of the program, which provide enhanced opportunities for clinical education at Prince George Regional Hospital and other regional health care locations
The Northern Medical Program is a partnership between UBC and the University of Northern British Columbia and is an integral part of the expansion of UBC's Faculty of Medicine. The goal of the Program is to train physicians in the north for rural and northern practice. It is considered vital in meeting the critical need of northern communities for health care professionals.
