Oh geez how depressing
sad
The driver must feel aweful now. Bad to say this but hope its the pedestrians fault so this drivers record is not tarnished as a result
At least this driver stuck around and faced the consequences.

That being said, a person shouldn't die from thier injuries if struck in a parking lot unless the car was going way too fast. I have seen it both in that parking lot and at others in town that some people think they are driving on Central Ave when going through the parking lot. If this driver was driving with due care and attention and going a proper speed for the parking lot they would have been able to stop, even if the walker stepped out in front of them without notice, or at the very least the injuries wouldn't have been life threatening.
It is easy to make comments, but we all drive too fast with pedestrians meandering around.

Older I get, more I value life.

To the unfortunate driver, their was no intent, but it is a heavy burden to carry. It easily could be any one of us.
"That being said, a person shouldn't die from thier injuries if struck in a parking lot unless the car was going way too fast"

Simply falling and hitting your head can kill you. You statement is untrue.

"If this driver was driving with due care and attention and going a proper speed for the parking lot they would have been able to stop, even if the walker stepped out in front of them without notice, or at the very least the injuries wouldn't have been life threatening."

Pure speculation!

Thoughts go out to all involved.

Exactly.

A car does not even have to be involved.

Someone could slip on some ice or trip over his own feet and fall in such a way that he would hit his head and died from the concussion.
BTW, that kind of scenario would likely not be a news item.
gus,

this is opinion 250, it doesnt have to be a "news" item to be reported here.

They also try to put up as many local stories as they can.

Many a broken leg due to jumping to conclusions.
sad story. that parking lot can get a little crazy, but i don't see too many speeders. we're talking about an elderly man vs. a 2000 lb vehicle, even if it was only moving 5 km/h, the man will lose. i agree with DPJ.
Why is everyone defending the driver instead of extending their sympathies to the elderly deceased gentleman?

I smell something fishy. Was the drivers speeding? Are his online friends trying to downplay the incident?

A wspeed parking lot vehicle/pedestrian collison does not usually result in a death.
