Prince George, B.C.- Local General Practitioner, and head of the Northern Medical Society, Dr. Bert Kelly, is among 45 people in B.C. named to receive a B.C. Community Achievement Award.

Together, British Columbians have built a stronger province and we gather confidence from those who have consistently and honourably created safe and caring communities," said Premier Campbell. "I applaud the outstanding contribution these individuals have made to regions throughout British Columbia and their commitment to making our province the best place on earth."

Dr. Kelly is being recognized for his role in advocating for change in the delivery of health care in northern BC. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Northern Medical program at the University of Northern BC and laboratory technology and radiology programs at the College of New Caledonia. In addition, Dr. Kelly has successfully campaigned for a comprehensive cancer care centre in Prince George.

Dr. Kelly says word of the award caught him by surprise "It came completely out of the blue".  Dr. Kelly says anything that has been achieved is a result of the efforts of many,"I am very happy to  accept this on behalf of the efforts of the Northern Medical Society."
