Prince George- Premier Gordon Campbell says there may be a need for a different Structure for School boards in the province that takes into account the needs of rural schools.

Speaking in Prince George the Premier said,” never underestimate the value of a school in a small community”. We need to recognize that there are different needs in a small community.

The province has seen school enrolment drop by 60,000 students and that has affected the way that education is being delivered.

We need to look at making the rural school a learning center, in which the school facilities are shared by perhaps, the local government, seniors, a day care center and other needs to serve the community which would justify its existence, the premier said.

School board Chairman Lyn Hall says the District is looking at cuts of between 20 and 40 employees who work in the central offices of the school district. The district is receiving just over $1,700,000 more in additional funds from the province.

The closing a rural school according to Hall, results in a saving of about $200,000.00, 13 are on the block.

Gordon Campbell THE HABITUAL LIAR

Grant try to stop whining!
they'll save 200,000 by closing a rural school, and then once the rural community has become a ghost town the government will kick in millions for rural school activity centres - way to go!! why don't they realize that schools are what makes communities liveable and closing a school is like telling a community it is not worth living in. make it work without closing so many schools - the central board administration office is the place to find the savings, not the living heart of communities
Why do you bother coming to this site
mr PG,you seem to be disagreeing with everybody lately!
