Prince George, B.C.- It was 25 years ago today that Rick Hansen  started his Man in Motion Tour.

It took Rick and his Man In Motion Team  a litle over two years to cover  34 countries on four continents. He wheeled the equivalent of more than two marathons a day (40,000 km in total) before returning home to a hero’s welcome in Vancouver. His Man In Motion World Tour raised awareness of the potential of people with disabilities and an astonishing $26 million to realize his dream.

"If you believe in a dream and have the courage to try, great things can be accomplished. Anything is possible."

- Rick Hansen

Premier Gordon Campbell has issued a  message of congratulations to mark this special  day:

"Twenty five years ago Rick Hansen set out from Vancouver on his Man in Motion World Tour to raise funds for spinal cord research and quality of life improvements for people with disabilities.

"Over the next two years Rick visited 34 countries on four continents, wheeling the equivalent of more than two marathons a day, and raising an incredible $26 million before returning again to Vancouver in May 1987.

"It is fitting that the first-ever Paralympic Winter Games on Canadian soil are taking place in Vancouver and Whistler on this significant anniversary. A multiple Paralympic medal winner and three-time wheelchair marathon champion himself, Rick's spirit and presence are a
constant inspiration to anyone who has the will to overcome adversity.

"Rick personifies the triumph of determination over personal tragedy, setting the highest standard of individual accomplishment. He has changed forever the way the people with disabilities are regarded. On behalf of all British Columbians I congratulate Rick on his remarkable accomplishments, both during the Man In Motion tour and in the years since."

This was and still is a remarkable journey. The Man in Motion journey continues to this day, and has raised over 200 million dollars for spinal research.
Along with the hundreds of millions raised for the Terry Fox foundation, these two extraordinary boys of BC have raised near a Billion Dollars for Spinal and Cancer research!
BUT THIS IS A POSITIVE UPLIFTING STORY, thus no posted comments. Where are the positive comments by those who use this site every day to rip everyone plus each other apart.
Rick Hansen and Terry Fox both took part in the Prince George to Boston Marathon in 1979, so you might say that they planted the seeds for their respective journeys right here in PRINCE GEORGE, THE ONLY TOWN IN THE WORLD THAT CAN LAY THIS CLAIM.

SHAME,no comments being posted, but mention one pot hole, and the whole site goes crazy.

Now calm down. The story was only up for three hours before you decided to chew everyone out.
I just seen this. Yeah for sure dude is amazing. I mean what you want me to say. He's a national hero.Great wonderful.
He has turned himself into a living legend. Not only because of his feat, but because his constant pursuit for 25 years. Way to go, Rick.
Yes, two incredible men!! BC boys, that did get their start in Prince George, to start their incredible journeys. I watched Terry on TV to his last days. He gave cancer a new face. One that would bring hope, that some day we would find a cure. Terry's outstanding contribution will never be forgotten, and there will be a cure forth coming, in part because of a dream a young man had. His legacy will carry on for ever.

When Rick came through Prince George, I was out there cheering. I got up early on the day of his departure from Prince George. I brought my children with me, and we witnessed together, an incredible man, nearing the end of an incredible journey.

Thank you Terry and Rick, for making a difference in our lives.
