Prince George, B.C.-Kamran Mohammad sat quietly as the Crown presented it’s opening statement on its case.
Mohammad is charged with criminal negligence cause bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death public mischief and obstruction of justice. The charges stem from a collision in January of 2007 which left Richard Johnson of Prince George injured, and killed Muriel Johnson , his wife.
The Crown says it plans to show over the 4 days of the trial, that Kamran Mohammad did not have a valid B.C. class 1 driver’s license which would have allowed him to be behind the wheel of the tractor trailer unit he has admitted he was driving. The Crown further claims the driver's log was falsified.
Crown says it will present evidence to show Mohammad’s tractor trailer was behind two snow ploughs that were clearing highway 97 south and that Crown will show Mohammad tried to pass the ploughs or at the very least was not giving enough care and attention to his driving and allowed the rig to move into the northbound lane.
Crown plans to call 13 witnesses and expects the trial to last 4 days.
